Help Anyone identify battery hog apps?

Now that it's been out a few days, has anyone noticed any particulary nasty apps when it comes to battery? I'm doing my own experiment right now on 3G vs wifi. I know, everyone swears wifi is better, but I've been using wifi exclsuively at my house, and had terrible life compared to my DX (same size but LCD screen, smaller battery). So, I'm doing what I always did with my DX--leaving wifi off, and seeing what happens. I have to leave 4G off, BTW at my house because I am in a true null zone. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

So, anyone else identify anything that just chews up the battery?

I noticed the bloatware app Social Location chews up the battery, about 8%-10% over the day. You have to manually click on the short cut and menu > off.

As noted in another thread, Screebl was a huge battery hog on my phone. I deleted it yesterday afternoon, and I'd estimate I'm getting 30-50% longer battery life over last evening and today.

I closed Social Location but it still shows up under my battery listing as using like 9%....I've never used that app. It won't let me uninstall, just hide...any suggestions?

Yup Screebl. I found that one :)

I'm assuming that you guys installed this app? It wasn't something that was on your phone, and you uninstalled, was it?

I haven't played around with smart actions at all yet, but I think that what I really need is a smart action to OFF everything except phone and texts when I'm at work. My place of employment is pretty hard on phones, and if the phone is doing anything other than sitting there waiting for calls, it's going to kill my battery in pretty short order...

What about the installed task killer? Does it seem to help any? I have all my tasks set to end 2 mins. after the screen locks.

I noticed that too....I don't understand why you can't just remove this junk! I went to the task manager app and set the Social location app to stop 2 min after screen goes off. I never use the darn thing, yet it continues to run!!

Thanks for the tip on Social Location...went in and manually turned it off. Hopefully that shuts it down for good.

If you "hide" the bloat apps that the phone comes with, will it prevent them from turning on and running on their own?

They don't turn on anyway. Hiding them only hides the icon. If you don't use them they don't open. RAZR runs very lean

I've never opened Social Location ap... yet on battery usage, it's usually #2 or 3 behind display on usage... about 15%!!!

any ideas on how to keep this from running/starting?

my battery usage on average

Display- 40-55%
Android OS 30-40%
Social location 15-25%
Wifi 10-15%
Facebook 5-10%
Phone idle 4-6%
cell standby 3-6%
Handcent 3-6%
Browser 2-4% been as high as 35% on occasion

this is normal for me, and sometimes a item will be higher and sometimes lower.. netflix for example has been in the 30'S

How do you do this?

I've noticed that the Social Location app starts back up after doing this? Social location is now using up 15% of my battery life :(

Figured out how to elminate the Social Location from opening. Simply stopping doesn't work...

Open the app, and manually delete all the categories from the main page. Then go to the other two pages (something and Friends) and make sure you aren't logged into facebook through it, and the other page is blank.
menu>Quit

I restarted the phone after doing this... and 4hrs later (no charge) the app has not used ANY of my battery.

I checked mine this morning, and it was running in about the 10% range, and I had it deleted, and in the trash.

Did this post, by removing the categories, and making sure that I'm not logged into Facebook, etc...

Rebooted my phone, and it is NOT working for me. Now Social networking is hogging 25% of my battery, BUT my phone is a GREAT hand warmer! It's probably the hottest that it's been since I've owned it! My battery is taking a pounding after doing this change. I might actually have to go back and add it back IN, so that it only uses 10%, and not 25%.

I thought that this would be a great help, but it is has definitely made my battery usage worse...

I'm not for sure this is a true statement. I have never used Social Location on my phone and it is indeed running, and chewing up battery. It's chewing up battery even with all of the locations deleted, and it not logging into anything.

So, things that I'm not using are running...

Dude, sorry... Don't know what to say, except it's now almost two days, and Social Location hasn't started back up for me.

Hope you figure it out.
