New member, confused but learning...lol

Hey all,

I finally saw the light, after owning an iPod Touch 2g 32 GB and then a 3g 64 GB spent about 400 dollars each time...

Now I own a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0, trying to learn about the rooting backup and loading processes and such with android devices but I'm not finding much so far, I posted a question in the right place, I hope...lol

I bought this device because I want a WiFi phone because data on smart phones is too expensiive for a college student...

I own the Google Voice app and the gVoice VoIP app abd I have free texting and free VoIP calling to and from with my google voice number and google voice account alone!

The VoIP app I have is a bit buggy, like a lot, but it works for now, I'll probably get sipdroid and a SipGate number or something like that later, idk yet..

But hi, thats me, my initial plan for android because apple devices are to much money, never lasted for me, and this device has built in real sat GPS too! and FM radio!

idk I'm just happy...lol

EDIT: I'm staying an android user, never going back to apple devices, these thing are just so much more fun, no need to root to do what I NEED, but I want to because I actually found a legit reason why I want to root, apps permissions...lol

Isn't the Galaxy player simply a Galaxy S without the 3G or phone radios? I would think that the same rooting would apply, but better check just to make sure. I'd hate to have you brick it on bad advice.

I wasn't sure... in fact, I didn't know that! I was sure that someone would be able to give an answer though... thanks Lunatic!!

It seems to be the same as the galaxy S but without the cell transmitter chip...

It has microphone and rear speakerphone, as well as ear piece speaker...
So I can make calls with my Google Voice VoIP app and hold it up to my head and fry my brain on wifi...lol

It does not support dialer, I have already tried to get dialer apps and such that use built in dialer to work, it keeps force closing when i click dial...
The GV VoIP app I have uses its own dialer, but it is buggy...

I bought it because my last iPod touch died and I needed another wifi phone, and this one fits everything perfect as far as hardware, I'm on this GV VoIP app for now, it is buggy sometimes, but eventually I'll figure this out...
I tried PBxes.org and sipdroid, it worked a week then they emailed me demanding my personal information or they will close my free account...haha

It takes time, I'll figure it out, I'm not the only one with a Galaxy Player 5.0 so maybe once I get everything I'll post a tutorial or an information post, idk yet...
