Viper Remote Smart Start

Hopefully they'll release it due to Verizon pushing the Android OS as their big Smartphone oS right now and since they're the largest carrier maybe it'll come out.
I was thinking about that since I'm in the market for a new car alarm and thought if it comes to the Droid I'd buy that config.

the smart start is not compatible with the 791xv. only with the 5701, 5901 and equivalent models.

why can't we get our phones to do this now with our current keyless entry, remote start systems? If we know the codes needed to send, why can't it be programmed in?

It does not use Bluetooth it uses cell signal to work off the phone
the code can't be copied it has billions of rolling code

I understand the rolling code, however it can be copied, I'm able to go to dodge and get a new key fob to unlock my doors as well I'm able to go to the company that made my remote starter and get a new key fob from them and program it at home to use.
It can be copied, we just need the app to allow us the ability to set and send the signal.

actulay that is incorrect. the dodge key fob depending on what you have will control the car door locks and that is a different set up, now the remote from the retail location is going to be compatible with the system and have the code inbedded in it and all they do is teach the remote to the alarm

Lets take factory setups out of it at least for now to help my feeble mind.
The aftermarktet unit is spliced in and if I'm not mistaken doesn't use the factory code at all. Its spliced into all the power wires for the door lock, starter, sunroof, whatever you have it hooked into.
Then it uses its own code to control these functions making the old fob worthless as the new one is doing its job on its own without using any of its code (so perhaps that one still works as well? never tried it) going to its own receiver installed in the car.
Assuming I'm right so far, why again can't there be an app that is set to send this code to this receiver?

let's go backwards . the original question was if we can copy the code and teach a device. now as far as an app were waiting for the converted for android but you still have to buy a module to allow the alarm to recieve the commands

Ok, the module to receive the cell signal, I'm with ya that far. I guess my question is, Is the DROID not able to send out the signal that the current stock/retail companies are using?

no, not at the moment. for now it 's an iphone app and crackberry will be released any day now. D.E.I. the parent company of viper is working on making it compatible with more phones. so for now were on the sidelines.

the module is out already it's just the app that were waiting for. as soon as that app is released the module will work with android.

if you bought it from a good dealer he will work with you to upgrade the alarm keep in mind you will need a 2nd module that reatils about $299
I work in TV in Philly and I shot an interview last night with a rep from Directed Electronics the makers of Viper at the Philadelphia Auto Show in the Sound of Tristate booth in the "Dubb Live" section of the show.
Anyway I was there to shoot them showcasing this new iphone app that you can start you vehicle any where in the world! They do have to install a device in your car to make this work. The app is free through itunes though. They had a demo set up to prove this point. The truck was in Wilmington, Delaware and they had a camera showing the truck on a plasma screen. The guy hit unlock from his iPhone and the lights flashed then he hit the Smart Start button and the lights went off and vehicle started. The distance from the Auto Show to where the truck was in Delaware was about 45-50 miles. It uses a WIFI or cell connection to make it work. The rep said he could have been in California and started his car here on the east coast if he wanted to! LOL!
I asked him about the Droid and he said for now they are promoting this for the iPhone right now. The Blackberry is coming next if not already available and later this year he said they will debut it for Droid owners and other smart phones. He said there is way more iPhone and Blackberry owners out there so they wanted to start with them then trickle down to the other smart phones.

ok what everyone needs to understand is that the smart start is nothing more than a cell phone attached to your remote start brain. when you use the app on the iphone it send the command to Viper's server and then viper sends the comand to the car. the phone doesnt broadcast any type of RF signal. second the app is free and you get to use it free for the first year then its $30 a year after that. i dont know about you guys, but im not willing to pay $30 a year for something when i have to carry my keys anyway. so why not just carry the remote.
They only benefit i see from this app is that it will give you notifications of the alarm going off. viper and all the other companys out the offer one mile range remotes. now if your farter than a mile away the A-holes that break into your car are gona be long gone by the time you get back to it anyway.
Great idea, and a cool app, but for the most part useless as an everyday replacement for the remote viper supplys
