Viper Remote Smart Start

ok what everyone needs to understand is that the smart start is nothing more than a cell phone attached to your remote start brain. when you use the app on the iphone it send the command to Viper's server and then viper sends the comand to the car. the phone doesnt broadcast any type of RF signal. second the app is free and you get to use it free for the first year then its $30 a year after that. i dont know about you guys, but im not willing to pay $30 a year for something when i have to carry my keys anyway. so why not just carry the remote.

They only benefit i see from this app is that it will give you notifications of the alarm going off. viper and all the other companys out the offer one mile range remotes. now if your farter than a mile away the A-holes that break into your car are gona be long gone by the time you get back to it anyway.

Great idea, and a cool app, but for the most part useless as an everyday replacement for the remote viper supplys

I fart $30 a year and i am by no means rich. The fact that the service is THAT cheap makes it totally worth it. There are people who would pay $10/month for it.

I love the idea of the whole remote start with your phone idea, but as mentioned if your going to be carring your keys anyway why pay.

only way See myself paying is if they start making house locks that can be used with your phone. Then you wont have to carry keys. Wholes going to make it and become rich. :D

We have had 4 Viper remote starts in the family, and we so love them, and feel that when the temps soar over 100 degrees in the shade, it's very much needed here in AZ. They have all been the VX791's which had that little blue lcd remote. Every single remote is fubar, some after a very short time. They constantly need batteries, they use it even just hanging around. We have to carry spare batteries in the car, and everyone has to know where the bypass is. Irritating.

The remotes are very fragile. Every one has a screwed up display, i.e. you can't see what's going on. Some have lost the sound...that's nice, right? Oh, guess how much for a new remote? $150, plus the hassle of getting it paired.

I hate having a bulky remote in my pocket. My parent's new lexus has smartentry, i.e. leave the keys in your pockets and merely touch the handle and it opens - brilliant! I carry my keys along with my wallet in my right pocket and my phone in my left by itself to avoid getting it scratched. I'd much rather look at a big display and start the car and absolutely knowing it's started. I have my phone out almost all the time anyway. Don't be fooled about vipers 1 mile range. It's not even close! When you're inside Costco, you're lucky to get it started, and I hate the delay 3 beeps ...sorry, didn't get the last command....hate it...it looks like a toy as well. I just want to push 1 button and KNOWING it starts and does it thing. The phone app will do that for me. I don't care about security. I carry insurance on all the cars and everything is replaceable.

We have 100 days where the temperatures over 100 degrees. That's in the shade. We have no cloud cover, and even with tint, the temps can soar over 160 degrees if left in the sun. This calls for remote start like nothing else. I look forward to paying $30 a year and $650 for BB to install it including a bypass and trunk pop. That's just for the basic system, no security. The security in the LS430 is already superb, and if they want the car that bad, take it!

finally I found info on this
would 3 cars = $90 a year? I hope they offer a discount if not that would suck
maybe I'll only get one, I can live with the $30 per year

i am hoping it will be out for the droid within a few weeks. I have the system installed but can only use itwith my wifes ipod to test it. I have the droid so i sit and wait. I have been in steady contact with a tech support person at viper. He has told me that he has the app and they are on their 3rd revision of it. He told me a few days ago he was just waiting for the final approval on it. IT is coming but when is the question. I would guess within a month at most

Good info Fucco.... As soon as I'm done working on the car...(front suspension) I'll schedule an appointment with best buy to have it in and ready to go. I hope 1 of the install guys will have an iphone to test it with. Was quoted $650 installed with the trunk pop.

I just brought the installers coffee the morning they were installing, and they hooked up the trunk pop for free :)

that would be great news if it is true. I usually check the market doing a search 2x a day since my install in june. thanks for the update

i am waiting on 2. This one and the "Myhava" app. Similar to slingbox to watch my home tv. That one is supposed to be out next week according to them.

got me, as of now there is still no app in the market place. I was wondering where the previous poster got the android app on his sprint EVO phone from?

A few people look like they were invited to a beta, couple people tweeted about it. Search for viper on twitter.
