SpeedTest results

NoNamer

Newbie
So I'm trying to get an average of speedtest results before and after any RMA on everyone's Primes.

Closest to my router :

Ping : 35 ms
13.14 down / 5.56 up

Farthest from my router :

Ping : 36 ms
8.62 down / 5.37 up.

Now all this is without any RMA, just straight up firmware updates....I have high speed internet from Comcast with 11 ms ping, 25 down/5 up on my laptop in a regular sized 1 bedroom condo with lotsa walls

Reason I'm doing this is to figure out if WiFi speeds on my Prime are on par with everyone else's and if not, it'll help me (and hopefully others) to decide if it's worth it to send it in or not.

Thanks

With wifi speeds like you are getting do you feel you would notice any difference between the before and after? I ask because you can stream a hidef video with about 5 megs. I have had comcast 15, 25, and 50 Meg service and unless I am downloading an 8 gig torrent file I have not noticed a difference at all. I often check my speed on my phone (att fake 4g) and a friends Droid bionic (lte ). Although his speed test results are 15megs and mine are 2.5megs, when we load up web sites the difference is not noticed.

Point being that with the speeds you are getting you really shouldn't notice a difference either way. I wouldn't send my device in for repairs if I am not going to notice a performance increase in anything but a benchmark test.

At this point I'd be pretty happy with those numbers. :) My speed tests away from my router drop horribly & are much slower than that.

I will test when im home tonight and let you know.

I get god awful wifi signel in my bedroom anyway which is a problem for all my devices (laptop, phone, ps3 drop off altogether now and then if im on wifi and my pc is only acceptable as it has 2 dirty great wifi antennae's sticking out the back...).

However I did try a program on my pc called connectify which I used to take the internet from the ethernet cable I have in my room and use the wireless card as a access point. Worked well and I was getting 20meg down and 4.5 up. Can also be used as a wireless repeater to extend your wireless range in your house.

I get 38meg down and 7 up on my pc through BT infinity on my pc when wired in btw.

Well I don't think I will notice a difference and I am quite happy with the quickness of even the stock browser it's just that I have this thought in the back of my head that things could be a whole lot quicker.:o

So went home tonight and tested the performance (wifi that is) throughout the house. My control is my rooted B&N nook. I placed them side by side and used the speedtest android app, latency was almost identical between the two devices so I will not post those right now. Started off in the basement next to the router, and moved thru the house. Let me know if this is near what you are all seeing.

ok, tested last night and I was getting 29meg down, 7 meg up next to the router and 3.5 meg down with 3 meg up in my room (othe side of my house and up 1 floor).

tested the connectify method I stated before and I once again got 20 meg down and 7 meg up.

The speed im getting isnt the problem though, the fact its saying its connected to wifi with 2+bars but the connection dropping out anyway however is...

for some reason I had trouble streaming sd quality youtube video yesterday through both my wifi and my conectify connection (paused to buffer a hell of a lot). Howver using my phones 3g connection as a hotspot worked fine from about a foot away (tested as getting 3 meg down 2 meg up on that) so go figure...

Im dumfounded by this :(

So youpoint out the issue that the numbers themselves really do not mean much, it is the performance that is the key.

In the two spots that had the lowest download speeds:

Nook Prime
mid floor 20' 12759 7504
Top Floor 30' 13293 6890

had no problem streaming netflix videos. So the question remains for me, does the higher processor speed make up for the lower download speed through caching etc.

I am torn as to whether to keep the thing or not.

Well if it does what you want it to do in the rooms you will be doing said tasks in, and you are happy with it then keep it.

You are the only one that can test it out enough to see if it does what you want or not.

Hoping it works out for you.
