Unknown artist displayed when downloading from media go

Hi there, I am all new to Android phones.

I have a Xperia Arc 1. Downloading music files from media go is easy enough.

All the CDs that I have uploaded onto my PC in the past or bought direct from itunes are displayed in properties as M4.a. These are the file formats on media go.

Of course after getting the phone I joyfully downloaded some chunks from my PC collection. I then noticed the 1300 individual tracks or the several hundred full length CDs are all correct apart from the band names showing as Unknown artist.

A little frustrating. I looked around this forum and found out that lots of folk had the same problem. I read some fixes about this issue.

I went to market place to install mediafix and id3fixer both of which had happy comments beneath the install page on the phone and on this forum.

Both of these apps did not do anything to solve my problem.
Is the M4.a (mp4) the problem?

The id3fixer did at least try to fix the 1300 tracks. It looked like it weas doing something over 30 seconds until completion and I was quite excited.

Alas as soon as it 'fixed' all the tracks I now have a lot longer time to wait for 1300 error messages to scroll across my phone for example;

Error when fix file: /mnt/sdcard/Music/The Jam/Sound Effects/01 Pretty Green.mp4

Any ideas what I did wrong? I obviously would not relish the idea of converting all my PC M4.a tracks to mp3s if at all possible as there is another 20000 tracks I could upload if I wanted to. I stopped at 1300 as I saw there was a problem occuring. I probably would not know how to do the conversion anyway!

Any help would be much appreciated...

Hey all sorted now without the aid of mediafix or id3fixer; this is how you can get the band names via the media go on the PC:
hello, it is caused by your mp4 file. if the music info can be correctly displayed on your PC or media go, You can try this way on your media go:
Tools->prereference->device->select your phone name->properties->media format->select MP3->un-check the only enable...... and then transder your music to your phone again! it will be OK!!!

I tried this solution and it started converting all my albums. Which is pretty time consuming. Was going to take an hour to download just a fraction of my library.

So just out of curiosity, I just bypassed MediaGo altogether and moved them using Windows. Hey Presto it worked perfectly.

Over 4GB of albums in 12 minutes. Album covers and everything all unaltered.

Sometimes the old ways work best.
