Help Program monitor widget, does it hurt rather than help?

Dieseled

I've always been under the impression that task killing apps harm battery life instead of help.

I noticed, and have been using, the program monitor widget on my new epic touch 4g that allows me to stop programs.

Seeing as how this came with the phone, does it cause the same issues that a task killer app does?

The program monitor widget you're referring to is the same as holding down the home button for a second or so then selecting "task manager". This task manager is designed to work with this phone so I don't think using it will shorten your battery life.

The program monitor on the Epic only show running apps. Most task killers show running services. When you shut down a service it will open back up therefore using battery to start its self back up. I use the program monitor on the epic to close a few apps that constantly run even after closed. One of my apps in particular will attempt to sync constantly and will drain my battery in less than 3 hours. So I would say that the program monitor is safe to use on the epic and it works quite well.

Would anyone be able to tell me what the colour indications with the message coming up saying "Program(Facebook....) battery used by running applications" means when it's in red?

I think i've also had the exact same message in green and I used to have easy battery saver app and frequently the same message would come up in green, except instead of saying facebook it said "easy battery saver". Also my number always stays at orange even when there are no apps open.
