Plain and simple...APPLE is threated by the fact android will out compete them. Steve Jobs is crapping his pants because there is now some unbeatable competition. Its not about anything else. I bet apple workers left there iphones behind and all bought droids...and now he is about to have a gasket blow...And you know what else....? WHO CARES OF THEY WIN AND HTC HAS TO MODIFY ITS SOFTWARE....WE HAVE DEVS THAT ARE FAR MORE SUPERIOR AND WILL JUST COOK A ROM FOR US AND JUST LIKE THAT WE'LL HAVE OUR BEAUTIFUL FUNCTIONAL PHONES BACK!!!

Problem is, the main stream consumer base isn't willing to root their phone, and if the stock phone doesn't provide enough functionality (like a screen that can be unlocked with a gesture) then they won't buy the product. From a strictly business standpoint, apple's suit makes sense. From an ethical and moral standpoint it's ridiculous.

Apple brought a new game to the playground, and initially they were the best at playing it. Now that everyone has learned the rules, and someone is playing the game better, Apple wants to take its ball and go home, so no one else but them can play.

Also, let's not forget something: Google's Android OS is free and open source to manufacturers. Thus, they are not making money off the "Apple Patents". HTC on the other hand is selling handsets directly due to the use of Android. So the lawsuit targets HTC because they are essentially the commercial arm of Google's mobile platform.

The goal here is to prevent manufacturers from using Android, not to eliminate android. I could build and code my own iPhone in my garage and be fine, but if I sold it to one of you, I would get sued to kingdom come.

I'm with you on this too Joe. Open Source means no control on apps for the device, which is a huge problem for Apples app store which I'm sure they're making bookoo bucks on. The patents are just a mechanism for them to put a stop to what Android is all about. I only hope Google puts their money where there mouth is, and say's this is war! They need to do the right thing and back HTC 100%.

Agreed, but also understand, they're not picking on HTC because they're 'the commerial arm of Googles mobile platform'. It's because in terms of financial footprint, they're small, and can be pushed around. Apple could have just as easily named Morotola in the Suit for the MotoDroid, which uses Android, but they didn't because Motorola has more bucks to put up a bigger fight.

When Apple started this whole thing, they had a list of companies on the White Board, and they Narrow'd it down to the one they had the best chance of muscling around, and that's HTC.

I think there was some other criteria that helped make HTC the target. Yes they have a small financial base. But really that just affects how much they can give up in a court ruling against them. HTC will go all out in defense of this stupid suit and Apple had to figure that there may be a few Google lawyers at HTC's table in the courtroom as well (if not then Job's is really stupid).
Some other factors though. HTC built the N1, Google's first foray into direct sales. why not go after the company that built the flagship?
Also unlike Motorola or Palm HTC is not an American company. Yes all the phones from Palm and Motorola are made in Taiwan and HTC has an American presence, but they are a Taiwanese company first and foremost. Hence they are somewhat covered politically. With near 10% unemployment how good would it look for Apple to attack another American company?

enough of this apple bullshit. lets get sarab back here for some more details. maybe not exact specs, but he can say what exactly makes it incredible or what he's impressed with so far.....

I'd be interested if he could at least give us a nod if the memory specs are better than we are speculating (256).

if he's essentially given us a timeframe, i think he can give us yes/no answers to questions like memory/screen size/etc. nothing specific, but, like you said, "nods" or guiding us to a certain number.

LOL guys give him a break. He was nice enough to give us the info. he did. Anyone wanna throw some $$ his way? LOL I'm broke so I'm not

I have a company discount and my NE2 was up a week ago. I emailed my rep inquiring about Android Smartphones but not the Droid or Eris.
This is her 1st response:
Currently we only carry the Droid and Eris. We also have the HTC Touch Pro 2.

We haven't been given any information or business model for the Nexus 1. We aren't sure if Google will be selling this directly to our customers or if we will. I don't have any further information than what we are selling currently which is the models I listed and what is available online. You will not be able to upgrade anymore at the stores and be given your ***** discounts. The best prices for Bose are available thru the link below or go to My Account. That's where you will see your $50. New Every Two credit and discounts for ****
Then when I got back from lunch she sent me this:

I just spoke to my device contact and we will not be selling the Google phone. Google will be selling it directly.

However, we will be selling the HTC Incredible in early May if you can hold out until then.

take it for what it is.

I don't know if I agree here, Apple's not worrying about how anything 'looks' as far as attacking another American company in this economy. Money is all that matters to a corporation of their size. Everyone here is in agreement, Android is the real target here. Last I checked Google is as American as they come. No matter how they've staged this to look, they are attacking Google/Android.

Someone else here made a post a few back that basically said they're trying to stop manufactures from supporting Android, which makes more sense, they're trying to make an example of whats to come if a manufacturer starts supporting an Open Source Archictecture on their devices, by picking on the smallest of the group that is currently producing Android phones.

I believe in my heart, Motorola was on that whiteboard, they just said "Hey, HTC is more likely to cave first which will cost us less."

I'm not calling you wrong, I just disagree, in my opinion, if Apple had to choose between image and livelyhood, image will lose every time, it's about preserving the dominance of their corporation. It's about money.

Took a walk to the Verizon store during lunch, asked them about the Nexus One and they said Verizon would not be carrying the N1 in store, when I asked him about the Incredible he told me he has heard about it but doesn't know when it will launch.

Man may? *hit. I don't think VZW will sell the N1 in store, if anything (and I hope) a kiosk with info on it and the ability to buy online at the kiosk. But may?!?! Geez. Possibly an annoucment at CTIA and then a release in may? That timeframe wouldn't be too far off. Maybe they feel Apple is gonna release a new iPhone in June/July so they want to release the Incredible right before to steal some customers or something.

*HIT! May!?!!? damn.

early may???? Come on!!

Hopefully, she is only half right. I'll go with Sarab and his about a month. One can only hope and wait........and wait and wait:(

Any possibility May just means when it becomes available through corporate sales channels? Whohappy, have you ever noticed a lag on new phones being offered in store and through your rep? don't know if I can wait for May.
