New backs!

It would be nice if they would let us send the tf201's in and get them retrofitted to resolve the radio issues...

This is actually the TF700T...
It has a higher resolution, faster processor and stuff.
From what I read before both the prime and infinity will be available. Prime as higher class and infinity as the supreme class tablet through ASUS...

No crap this isn't the Prime dude. What you failed to get, is this is the Prime, with a new back, hence the new name for it.

Get it? It is the Prime + new back = Pad infinity

Or, if you wanted, you could read my post before your comment ... here, from original post:

"They snapped a new back on the prime, put a plastic strip in it, and call it an asus pad infinity."

Thank you

I think you missed his point though, it isn't just a new back though, it actually has a higher resolution screen and it cost a 100 dollars more as well.

There is also a cheaper version being released as well, with a different screen that will cost less as well.

You wouldn't say it was the same as well would you?

I agree it stinks that it there is another one being released, but that is how it goes.

Howdy. :)

So, here's the thing. I've been on Android since Donut and it's often difficult to ferret out actual device differences when we're at the mercy of maker's marketing release statements.

Here's a bigger thing - per our site rules, please attack issues and not each other. Easy enough to argue differences of opinion without making it edgy or even personal.

Cheers, thanks.

At the moment, I'm actually waiting for the Infinity...unless something better comes along (there have been rumors of an incredible Samsung tab).

No GPS mentioned in the specifications. Although my unit works well enough for my needs.
The second link says:
there's a plastic RF window strip across the back of the tablet to improve WiFi/GPS reception.
But you are right, the specifications (at least all the ones I have seen) do not mention GPS. Hopefully it will be there and functional despite that. They are going to have 3G/4G versions which makes using it as a navigation device more plausible...

Of course, if I were going to use a 10" tablet for navigation, I'd like to have a Google Nav widget for the navigation giving me some screen real-estate for Slacker/Pandora...and maybe a Trapster widget running next to it. That's my kind of dashboard!

A better screen on a ten inch tablet? Hasn't it already been said that 720p on small TVs is unidentifiable next to 1080p of the same small tv? So while the spec is better, the ability to see the difference isn't there, also, it's more pixels to push, so if anything id rather 720 on my tab.

So really, it's the prime with a new back, you see?

Be sure to mention that frequently next week as all the tech sites go crazy over the iPad 3's display... ;)

Seems these tabs are getting too expensive. You can get a great low powered 13" laptop that will run circles around these things for the same or cheaper price (if adding the keyboard).

Seems these device are overstepping cost bounds, unless a person can truly replace their laptop. I can't so bought a laptop instead and will use the Thrive and View when not needing the laptop.

These devices are cool, none the less :) I can see for folks that are covered using one of these why they are appealing. No Windows can be a good thing- if you can do it :)

I agree that a Prime with a plastic strip back is a better buy than the new model. A lot of apps that looks great probably will be blur city on the new model, so having to wait for apps to catch up- again.

Not to mention the extra impact to the battery and some apps not liking the extra pixels.

Added: Classic line from Anandtech on the new model: "Expect availability to be limited based on panel supply, at least early on". Since the Prime is STILL hard to get, that makes the new model all the more dubious for supply.

Those are actually some valid points and are making me think that I may go with the TF300T (aka Transformer Pad 300) instead. It's supposed to be cheaper than the Prime, but I guess the question is how much cheaper.

I'm also curious about compatibility between tablets and docks. It looks like the 200 and 700 series docks will be common, but the 300 series might be a different dock (has lower specs on how many hours it adds).

also only comes in 16gb flavor.

You hit the nail directly on the head! We are a nation of consumers now. Noone needs a tablet, and marketing has everyone freaking out about how they NEED a tablet, like life wasn't possible before. I blame the iPad for this. But really, I'm as guilty as anyone else, I have a prime, and its cool, but in all actuality, it is a toy plain and simple. It will never be used for work or intensive tasks. Even with the dock, it pails in comparison to a full blown laptop.

I have one because I wanted it, to goof around with, and because the media has led me to believe that I need one.

You can buy a laptop for 399, and a nice one at that. For the price of the tf700 (600 + 150 for dock = 750, or the higher end one for 700 + 150 = 850) For that price you could literally buy two brand new laptops, or even an extremely nice ultrabook. You could buy a touch screen laptop even.

Tablets currently, offer little in regards to productivity. The battery life is the one difference between my laptop (Just purchased XPS laptop, battery life with 9 cell battery is too poor to even say :( )

Tablets are a toy, laptops while not as "cool" are capable of doing real life work. Then again, I hate using my laptop when I can use one of my desktops.

I'm sitting here next to one of those $399 laptops and I keep swiping the screen thinking it is a tablet. I've been conformed by the media! I still want a tablet...yes, want not need. I need a fully loaded laptop from Sager, but since that will not happen I will go the other way with the Prime.

I do the screen thing too, sometimes. If a user can only have one device, a laptop seems logical, but if can have other devices, Android tabs are very handy. I travel with at least one of my tabs, along with my Lenovo 470 (or T400 when work related, since work laptop).

This, I have always known that I do not need a tablet, but I wanted one to use. I go out of town from time to time, and tablets are better for me to take because of portability, battery life, and I have some good quick and short games to play.

I usually wont suggest a tablet to anyone if they are looking to replace a desktop or deciding between a tablet or a laptop. I have a desktop, laptop, and the prime. My goal is to replace my laptop. While my tablet isn't something I could use on its own, it is something I can use by itself for the majority of my needs. I plan on using just my tablet and desktop, and if need be I will still have my laptop.

Geez...now I'm thinking that I might just pull the trigger on the Prime. Not sure I want to wait for a lower or higher spec'd Transformer and I haven't seen any mind-blowing tablets coming out of MWC (other than the PadFone that I doubt will be available on Verizon).

I'm confused, is that an error from anandtech? they said it's a speed bump from 1.3GHz to 1.6GHz but the Prime already runs at 1.6GHz when in performance mode.

With the releases of Splashtop THD and OnLive Desktop Plus, I can see where all someone needs is either a desktop/tablet or laptop/tablet combination and either a PS3 or Xbox 360 controller.;)

Have to say I'm loving Slashtop THD on my Prime, with the keyboard dock it's just awesome.
