Help Texting on the Razr

Drekkyk

Newbie
Well, I made the switch from IOS mainly because I was bored with the interface. I really hated android battery life before, but with the Maxx I finally decided it was time to take the plunge.

So far, my only real problems are with text messaging. Perhaps some of you android saavy folks can help me out.

1) I like there to be a notification sound, but not as loud when I'm actually texting back and forth. Is there anyway to have one louder sound when the phone is locked and a softer sound when you are actively texting? (Or even off for that matter?)

2) Can you set texts to only vibrate when the phone is on vibrate mode? It seems like its either on or off.

3) When in landscape mode, the typing takes up the whole window, then you click done, then send. It seems like the keyboard is too big in this mode. Is there anyway to change that behavior so I can see texts that come in while typing in landscape mode?

I appreciate all your help!

You could stay vertical and use Swype...

A couple things I have done:

I use the free GO SMS Pro available in the Market to replace the built in SMS and like it a lot. Very customizable.

For my Keyboard, I use "Thumb Keyboard" which is a paid app but worth it as you can set different parameters for your keyboard in portrait and landscape, including the size. Also skinnable and very customizable.

Not sure about the tones, but that brings up a good point that I'm interested in the answer to as well.

Perhaps a new sms or keyboard is the way to go.

I like the idea of swype, but that will come with a learning curve. Maybe ill give that a try.

I have smart keyboard pro which I really like as it has different skins and you can control the size of the keys. It also has shortcuts...so you can set up idk to be replaced with I don't know.

For notifications nothing beats lightflow. Highly customizable. Different colors for different notifications...persistent notifications. Vibrations and sounds can be configured to be on or off when the screen is.

Both are paid apps but worth every penny IMO.
