High quality SD cards

So I've been using the same SD card that came out the box with my OG Droid forever now. Its a standard 16GB unit. However, I know people buy higher quality cards.

My question is: What are the benefits of a higher quality microSD card, and which one should I buy if I'm in the market for one?

I couldn't find a thread on this already, but if there is one, a simple link will suffice. Thanks in advance, all!
 
The class rating on an sd card translates to how fast it can transfer data, in megabits per second - a class 6 card is rated at 6 Mbps.

If you go with a faster card, your gallery will load faster and you may notice an improvement in video handling. You likely don't need a class 10 card in your phone, but a lot of folks go with the fastest they can to either future proof their needs or because some claim that many of the budget cards won't meet their rated speeds.

Avoid buying them from eBay, counterfeit cards are all the rage, being marked as 32 GB but actually being only 8 or even 2 GB. That can even happen on occasion from better online suppliers, so save your packaging until you're sure you bought a keeper.

Sandisk is excellent, but the Patriot class 10 cards available on Amazon seem to meet spec and they tend to be less expensive.
 
Class Rating 2. Transfer speed is a minimum of 2MB/sec.
Class Rating 4. Transfer speed is a minimum of 4MB/sec.
Class Rating 6. Transfer speed is a minimum of 6MB/sec.
Class Rating 10. Transfer speed is a minimum of 10MB/sec.

I personally prefer Sandisk then Transcend in that order.
 
Have a Sandisk 32gig class 6 card in my razr. Others will disagree but you really don't need anything higher than a class 6 card on your phone. Class 10's are overkill and are really ment for HQ digital cameras.
 
So I just checked my card. I have a 16GB class 4 card. Is that what android phones ship with? I don't remember upgrading. Is that decent? I would like a 32GB one, I'm just having a hard time finding class 6's on amazon

Yea, no class 6 32gig Sandisk on amazon.

However if you go to this link and click on where to buy, it will give a list of online sites to buy from, their prices, and if they are in stock or not. Gives local store results also.

I had read some where that class 4 should be the minimum for modern phones. :)

Following advice I read elsewhere I purchased a 64GB Sandisk micro SDXC (class 6) card (from Amazon) for my Galaxy S2 and it works just fine even though 32GB is the official limit for this phone. Really pleased to have all of my music with me and space left over. If you decide to go this way don't forget you must format the card in the phone prior to use.
 
Have used about half and the other half is showing available. More importantly the guy whose advice I took (on the xda forum) did fully test it and it worked fine (only wish I had a link to insert it here).

The only time a higher class card will produce better performance, is if your app is on the card. If you are just playing music and storing files on the card, a faster card won't make much difference.
 
Not to high jack this thread but is it possible to format these cards with a different format, such as NTFS or Linux ext3/4? Just curious.
