Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

"and bad" ?
We're you hoping a problem would go away, if so which one?

The only problems I am having is the gmail image problem and the app link to web problem. I think they are one in the same though.

I was hoping that a reset might correct it, but it didn't.

I may try and do a wipe with a fresh 2.1 install later or this weekend.

You've gotta let me know how that goes. I don't think it's going to fix the issue but I guess it's worth a shot.

I installed 2.1 the night everyone found out about the leak. I've noticed that the last two mornings when I get my phone off the charger (after charging all night), my battery only shows to be 98% full. This is right when I take it off the charger from charging for close to 8 hours. Has anyone else seen this?

Other then this issue, I'm loving 2.1 and I have no regrets for doing the update. Thanks to all those on this forum for all the help!!!

I did the *228 option on my phone, so the phone restarted. Just now I went to check my awake time, and it was at 2 hours 100% awake time! :( I'm restarting it now, then gonna play with it and go through the battery help thread and see if there's something I missed in there, but I was wondering if anyone else has seen this with 2.1, and if so, what did you do to fix? If I get it fixed, I'll update this post.

UPDATE: Don't know what happened. Restarted the phone and all is well. **shrugs**

Anyone notice that Gmail is not push anymore? Sometimes it's instant, sometimes it'll be 30 minutes...

I just tested this out... You seem correct. While using the stock Gmail App, sometimes I'd get messages instant, but most of the time it took a lot longer.

My fix... I'm using K-9 exclusively for Gmail now. I use Google Voice for Text Messaging and have those Texts emailed to a Gmail account. That was the Main account I used to setup the Eris. So I have the Stock Gmail app checking that account and K-9 checking my other 4 Gmail accounts.

K-9 seems to push instantly! The stock app does not. I noticed this in 1.5 as well as I would "miss" Texts from friends until well after the fact. Now seems instant as one would expect with Push.

In K-9 I have Poll Frequency set to Never...

K-9 is free. I am not associated with it in any way.

Not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but say I go into the application Where and decide to view a business web page...... it will not let me. It says 'web page not available'. If I use the browser and go to a website, it will open the page fine. Same problem exists in other applications that will allow you to visit third party websites. Anyone else have this problem?

Pretty serious glitch, in my opinion. It's happening for me on Phoneflicks and Craigsphone specifically. No problem connecting to the web with Yelp, Tripit, NubiNews, Newspapers, or Seesmic (which lets me view photos in links).

I noticed this with Urbanspoon, but I thought it was just the app. It isn't doing this with other apps that are already "connected" like peep or feedr.

See above.

workaround is to use a 3rd party browser.

I had Steel loaded and it didn't help the apps connect. In fact, Steel didn't connect at all either, so I uninstalled it. The stock browser on 2.1 seems faster and more polished. It shows videos better too.

Let me know if you find a fix. Thankfully, most of the apps that access the web also have mobile websites (like Netflix and Craigslist). Still a bit of a bummer.

Some people are reporting no issues with gmail sign in after reboot. I'd like to see some of them try the Quick settings app and see if they come up with the same result as you are getting.

I have Gmail sign-in issues with every second or third reboot.

A couple other issues: The camera froze and had force-close while trying to focus on nearby object not centered (you could touch the screen in 1.5 and it would focus on that point).

Main calendar app is great and shows tiny bars of scheduling next to each date in month mode--but it's sometimes slow to load individual schedules. And sometimes you can't pick which personal calendar to add events if you are viewing multiple calendars at once.

Exchange syncing seems to be intermittent--though there's more functionality such as being able to send meeting invites and edit "Out of Office" message. Nice addition.

Loving Maps 4.0 and Navigation. (Pretty refined)

Finally--the new Youtube app works flawlessly. I hated the old version which didn't allow for more than half the videos to be played.

Overall, the OS has been pretty rock steady. No force closings of the browser or sluggishness. Apps load and screens change at what appears to be a slow rate, but I think it's part of the way the GUI is supposed to be. I wouldn't call it slow--just refined. Not herky jerky or too fast like a Mac OS 9 window opening.

Bottom line--I'm glad I took the plunge. Hoping when the real OTA comes, we early adopters can still join in the "official" update.

Unless that major update to 2.1 will only allow itself run from a 1.5 phone. Possible.

... but extremely unlikely, especially since a 2.1 build that's extremely similar (if not identical) to the leak is currently being beta tested by VZW. There are probably hundreds (if not thousands) of users participating in that, and there's no way Verizon's going to leave them in the lurch.

One other question: I used Astro to back up my apps and loaded them onto my phone from the SD card after I updated to 2.1, then I checked the Market and realized it didn't recognize any of those apps as "downloaded." At that point, I figured that automatic updates wouldn't be recognized for any of the apps I just loaded locally so I just re-downloaded them from the Market. Has anyone else come across this or can let me know if the Market can tell if you need an app update if it's not in your "Downloaded" list?

BTW-I just tried downloading and relaunching Steel and it still doesn't connect to the web and I get the exact same error message as those other apps like Phoneflicks. Is anyone having this issue with Dolphin?

Chomp SMS, so far (*knocks on wood*) no problems with texts! It actually is a better program than handcent as well, muchh snappier :D. The only reason i wans't using it in the first place was MMS..but my MMS doesn't work anyone so eff it. :D

ChompSMS lets me send/receive MMS... I just tried it... I was able to receive a picture message, and was also able to send one. It compressed the image and sent, just like Handcent does. (I've always used Handcent but figured I'd give this a try since Handcent isn't working for me right now).

So I guess nobody knows how to really fix the facebook sync issue yet... but has anybody else has the issue with editing their contact card?!

Is Chomp SMS in the market? I searched but couldn't find it, is it listed as somthing else?

I had the handcent problem as well but switched to stock messenger and it's been fine. I liked handcent though.

Yes....isn't cubicle life great !!!

Few things I noticed that are bothersome

1. After the upgrade the weather listed in Desktop clock was accurate, after a few reboots it defaults to Akron, Ohio? Not bad if you live there but I don't.
If you click the weather icon it opens main HTC weather and adds Akron!

2. You can no longer use the GPS / Maps to add a weather city thats not in the default list. You used to be able to click the GPS icon after choosing add a city then scroll until you found yours or one you wanted weather info on/ This is odd because it will find "Where you are now" even if that city isn't listed in the Short std list.

3. The choice for weather upgrades under the main HTC weather menu - Update automatically and update frequency, wont stay enabled. Once you choose these as soon as you go back to menu screen they are disabled!

4. On reboot there are at least 12 apps running plus some obscure processes , I use quick system info to view them. If you put the phone to sleep after reboot then check the "awake time" it doesn't go fully to sleep. Ex. I put mine to sleep at 12M 28S then checked it 20 mins later and the "awake time" was 21m 48s and the up time was accurately showing 32M 28S.

If I close all apps after reboot using Quick System info, which reboots Sense as well, then repeat the above test. The "Awake time" is exactly where I closed it at even after hours of sleep time! And the really odd part is, when checking open apps / processes using Quick system info, many of the ones that were there after reboot eventually restart! But don't effect the "Awake time" any longer if you do a "mass" close after reboot.

Two apps processes that keep restarting constantly are - Mp3 Store and my uploads and any info on these?

Ok here we go I got the facebook sync to work with contacts list,

Step one, log out of the fb app.

Step two, settings> accounts & sync remove, yes remove the facebook for htc sync.

Step three add a new facebook for htc acct, log in to it, it wont sync yet

Step four log in to the fb app

Step five, go to contact list give it a few mins go about your usual linking to fb

It worked for mine. Enjoy

anyone know how to turn off the notification vibration when you are on a call? I could turn this off when I had 1.5. 2.1 seems to be missing to adjust this option. Kind of annoying while on a call the phone vibrates when i get a text or call.
