I personally would NEVER buy an iphone. EVER. I am on ATT right now and have no problem with their service in my area. my friend has an iphone 3gs and he is sooo ready to jump to android. he has even talked about selling his iphone on ebay so he can pay the etf and get an androis phone. steve jobs is such a tyranical ***** I can't imagine why anyone would want a phone that they are constantly told how they can use it and what they can do with it. but thats just my opinion.

Well, you're not alone, evil. If the macPhone came to Verizon TOMORROW, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. For all the reasons you said, and more.

Let's compare iPhone to Android (again): do you want free market competition or not? Open source or proprietary? Multiple competing vendors or one? Customizable or one-size-fits-all? Democracy or Fascism?

The iPhone has the same advantage as Mussolini's Italy: predictability -- the trains always ran on time ('cause if they didn't, those responsible DIED).

I'll take my chances with Android as I do with Democracy and free enterprise. I want the freedom to choose what I do with my phone, even if that means I have the freedom to brick it.

I don't know how manufacturing works, but I would think that if they were to attempt to fix the screen cracking problem - which is a hardware issue - there'd be no way VZW can release it by the end of this month. Assuming that issue was just recently discovered, and that the N1 has already gone into testing, they would need to replace every single screen and redo the factory lines. I don't know how difficult this would be, but I'd think much harder than a software issue fix.

Also, with the multitouch/sensor issue on the N1, apparently it was a bug in the app according to AndroidCentral:
YouTube - The Nexus One/Droid multitouch debate - AndroidCentral.com
So hopefully that'll lay to rest anyone's worries about the multitouch being nonfunctional

As for the whole iPhone to VZW, I found this..
Verizon iPhone In 2010: Less likely after Microsoft partnership
Not sure on the validity of it, so you can be the judge of that. It makes sense to me though.

That makes sense. I am more worried about the cracks than multi-touch anyway. I assumed the multi-touch would be a software fix.

As for the VZW iPhone thing, I don't put much into "partnerships". Don't forget... ATT is going to be the "premier partner" for windows 7 series phones. Plus the project pink is gonna be lame (IMO). Earliest I see a VZW iPhone is 2011 and it will be an LTE version.

I am too. As someone that ONLY wears skinny jeans, I'd have to either find a way to carry my phone around without putting it in my pocket (not a fan of holsters) or completely change my pant-warddrobe. Neither of these opinions sound appealing

for real? haha well either way, rock the holster like T I. I'll prob. get a holster, but I do like to keep it in my pants... The phone that is

hhhhhhhhhahhahahahah :p

Did you see how the first demo in that video reacted, when it screwed up, the other dot was mirrored away from the finger location. In the second app the screen might display what one would expect, but the actual location of the touch could still be mirrored.....in other words, I don't think that second app proves anything, because the box it draws would cover up the problem.

Exactly what I said the first time someone posted the link to this video.

Touche. When i first watched it, I thought the middle diagonal line through the middle circle was only connecting the two contact points but now that i re-watch it, you are correct. Its weird, because everything that is native to the N1 involving multitouch works just fine.. I believe the ONLY time it starts getting buggy is through gaming apps (not sure about non-gaming ones)

I was also thinking about the theory of the iPhone becoming the top tier phone as opposed to something like the Incredible. Would it actually make financial sense for them to create a CDMA iPhone only to replace it in a few months with LTE? Seems like that'd be an expensive placeholder..? But I'm not the one with billions of dollars, so I guess if they really wanted to, they could

It's not a huge issue, because it seems to only occur when the axes are crossed during touch, so it might affect some games and other apps that do stuff like rotate pictures or something......again not a huge issue, but still something to think about.

agreed. I don't think it would be and I don't think they will make one

Ok with all this talk about the multi touch, and it being said the N1, Desire and incredible all use the same screen. Has anyone tested this one a Desire? Yeah I know this isnt released yet but I'm seeing videos of websites playing with the desire. Someone get ahold of one of the sites and have them test the multi-touch on it. That way we can see if its the screen or a programing issue.

Sent a message to phonescoop and will see if the reply and if they can do a test for us.

just want to chime in on all the "Incredible as mid-range device" and "iphone possibly on VZW" chatter going on. I agree with the idea that many have here that the Incredible is going to be placed as their mid-range android device and Eris replacement. This isn't a knock against the Incredible, but rather a nod to the accelerated pace that new devices are arriving these days. I also tend to think that any sort of iphone possibility for Verizon will be a very large hinge towards which way this and other future devices will be placed. Yes the Incredible will be a fantastic phone, but by Fall, it will be either a step behind, or just on par with a dozen or so different models.

The reason I think this, is that Verizon has the luxury or having a significantly larger national network (and in some areas, like my Uncle in Fargo, it is the only real choice) and more subscribers than any other carrier-->Verizon leapfrogs AT&T for wireless subscriber lead We all know that their history has been to focus more on customer service and network reliability rather than the BEST hardware.

I'm not including the N1 in this long rant, in part, because I, personally, don't believe that it's going to matter that much as far as being the number one phone for any carrier, it's sold on many different carriers, Google's "revolutionary" online only approach hasn't generated nearly the success that the Ivy League crowd in Mountain View would have liked, and, because it is basically a Desire and Incredible internally, I rather don't care if it is coming to VZW soon. (Note: I know a someone that has one and she let me play with it...it is nice and the screen is beautiful, but too many quirks for my taste. I'll take Sense over stock any day of the week)

So, what about the iphone? I don't want one. Never have. Don't care for Apple. I like grapefruit for the record. But I have a hunch that there's several million folks on Verizon who would like to buy an iphone. I read a few pages back (sorry for not giving proper acknowledgment) that there is chatter online about the iphone having CDMA compatibility issues and wouldn't come any time before 2011. Also, a lot of folks are waiting and waiting for LTE to finally materialize. And it looks like it should late this year with full nationwide coverage by 2013-->LTE Information Center

Here's my point: What if the iphone comes next year to Verizon as it's first LTE handset? Makes sense if you think about it from VZW's point-of-view. Remember, the larger the company, the greater their scope. A mom-and-pop store only looks to how next month's targets will get reached, and the larger you get, the further out you look. A company as large and successful as Verizon already has the next decade's possibilities penciled in on their long-term to do list. LTE has to be a success. Don't assume that they aren't looking to counter-punch Sprint, who already has a head start with 4G and the rumored Supersonic as it's headline device. That's why I think that the new iphone, if it does come to VZW, will be positioned as it's superstar, while the Incredible will stand, proudly might I add, in it's shadow.

Well, if VZW will be selling the Nexus One instore, VZW will have to have it pass its extensive inspection. So if it is sold instore, we have nothing to worry about.

Hey guys,

Long time luker(since Nov-Dec), first time poster thought I'd finally register and start participating in the discussions of the Incredible.

I honestly don't think the Incredible will be a mid range device especially if it has a snapdragon processor in it, the rumors said it was running at 850mhz but how exactly did the person who saw the phone know that? its not displayed in the settings.

This phone will be the Verizon's Desire equivalent imo and as far as a LTE iPhone being the first LTE device I don't think so considering over on the howardforums people who work for Motorola are saying there will be a couple of devices this year that will be LTE compatible.

Quality post. I tend to agree with you. If the iPhone comes it will be one if not the flagship device for Verizon because:

A. It's that popular among, well the world
B. If it is their first LTE device that is what VZW is going to focus on. LTE. They are going to promote and push that and look for an LTE device to be their new flagship. If an android is their first LTE, that will be come their flagship. The droid is currently their flagship device, but by the time an iPhone arrives (if it arrives) the droid will be old news. Still an awesome phone, but old news. Like I said earlier though. It doesn't mean an another android device won't become the new flagship. Especially with the other Android phones coming out (and ones we don't know about)

Lastly though, does Stevie Whackjob still want to work with Verizon? Would he specifically keep the iPhone away from VZW to spite them for originally turning it down? YES. I believe 100% he would. He's loco man.

I'm not convinced VZW doesn't want several flagship devices... They want all the other networks flagship devices on their network. NOW THAT is a ballin' line-up. Do you want the knicks starting line-up or the Eastern Conference all-stars starting 5? Ya know what I mean?

Does millions of new iphones sold and millions of new subscribers switching to Verizon make sense for Apple and Verizon? Absolutely. Does requiring people to buy a new LTE iphone the year after that make sense? Well I don't see how that's any different than how Apple currently releases phones and every new release breaks the previous phone's sales record...so I'd say yeah we'll probably see the iphone in VZW in June. Its a poor business decision for both parties not to.

This may have been your first post, but it was a great first post! +1 I'm way past tired of hearing that a phone made specially for Verizon by HTC called THE INCREDIBLE is going to be an Eris replacement. Not. Going. To. Happen.

OK, here is my Verizon rep story. And I think it just proves that no one knows and we can't get straight info until an official release.

I went into my local Verizon Wireless store (though i believe it is one of their premium authorized retailers) and asked about the N1. He said he has been informed by Verizon that it will be available through GOOGLE March 23rd. He was adamant that he had been told the release date and that all the Verizon plans will be supported and you will simply purchase the hardware through Google. He said he had heard NOTHING of the HTC Incredible.

I then called the Verizon Wireless corporate store in the area, and the rep there told me that the store does not usually get told about the phones until the day before they are released. He said he had heard about the N1, but had no release date and had no other info. He had also not heard of the HTC Incredible.

This probably makes me guilty of yet another post with no new information, but just wanted to let people know of another confirmation of N1 on the 23rd and complete lack of knowledge of the Incredible.

Thank you for the encouragement. I look at information I get from CSR's with a deeply jaundice eye. The salesman at my corporate VZW store told me that his boss told him that th iPhone was going to be announced for VZW by Steve Jobs at the same meeting he announced the iPad. FAIL.

Don't get me wrong. I do hope you are right! Welcome to AndroidForums!! (Wait a minute, I'm new too and have to right to extend you that courtesy...eh.. never mind. Welcome anyway! ;) :) )

Well welcome both of us! :p

Considering they could just make an LTE version which would be viable for years to come, I stand by my judgement. From a business-stand point, that is not the logical decision. The iPhone IS Apple's phone. It's not like HTC, where they make several different phones.. So why would they risk selling something that would essentially start becoming obsolete by the end of the year. Not saying it CAN'T happen, but from a business standpoint, it would be much more logical to jump on the VZW bandwagon through LTE. The return from doing that, as opposed to making 2 phones, would be much larger.

Edit: In conclusion, I don't think the iPhone will be a top tier phone for VZW any time this year. Next year? Sure. At this point, its going to be either the Incredible or another phone that hasn't been rumored.

I agree, especially if the phone will be actually called the HTC Incredible there's no way it would be a mid range phone, if that were the case it would probably be called the HTC Acceptable.

Since the Nexus One will be sold on Google's website @ google.com/phone with Stock Android 2.1, Verizon will want a phone they can sell in their stores and their own website they'll have the Incredible with Sense 2.1 and specs similar to the Desire so 576RAM/512ROM imo.

All the rumors of the Incredible having 256RAM have been from the same pre production not final hardware and I really can't see it having less RAM than the HTC Eris which has 288MB? of RAM.

+1

I forgot about the MOTO thing. that would make sense. I remember hearing a little while back that there is one rumored to be 4.3" screen ala Supersonic. That, if real, could be a great Supersonic competitor.

Anyway, I believe in my LTE iphone theory only because, business-wise, it is extremely logical to some extent if...IF the iphone leaves AT&T. Personally, I don't think that an LTE-capable phone will be available before Christmas, at the earliest. The network just isn't there yet. Here's to hoping that VZW gets their s**t in gear and develops the crap out of it in 2010.

Jobbers can sure hold a grudge, that's true. Could be a good sign for all Verizon Android lovers out there though

There won't be an iphone this year on Verizon because AT&T keeps throwing money at apple.

But for all you people who think they won't release a CDMA version. Any Verizon LTE phone needs to be able to support CDMA. Just like a 3g phone falls back to 2g when out of 3g coverage. As good Verizon map claims they are, they still need 2g and 3g support in all phones.

Can we please stop talking about that smartphone-lite phone please?
