Battery meter calibration...lets see if it makes a difference.

At 10am (central time) this morning I turned on everything I could think of on my Maxx...brightness 100%, live wallpaper, Bluetooth, no screen timeout, mobile hotspot, GPS on, disabled all battery related smart actions, etc.

I've had the phone a week or so and the battery has never been below 30%....yet. Today, since I'm not working, I'm gonna run it till it stops and see how long it lasts.

I have a theory based on what I've seen so far that the battery will last me 30 hours (of my normal use)...I don't really know what to expect for today though.

We shall see...I'll report back later.

I will say this....today is the first time my phone has ever gotten so warm.

A little over 3.5 hours in, the battery meter says 40% (never calibrated) and the phone is quite warm. I have been web surfing and watching NetFlix on my lap top the whole 3.5 hours...using the mobile hotspot.

It should be noted that I don't have 4G in this area, I'm near Peru, IL today...3G only.

It shut itself down at 6.5 hours...right when "Last of the Dogmen" was getting good.

6.5 hours of REALLY heavy use (streaming NetFlix the whole time except during calls, live wallpaper, screen on most of the time, Bluetooth connected, a few phone calls, 100% brightness, GPS on etc.)...not too bad IMO...and it appears the stock battery meter was pretty darn close too, even though it had not been calibrated.

I keep reading about people that have amazing batteries but im not amazed with mine. I got the phone on thursday and went from an iphone 4. Today i took it off the charger at 7am at 100%. I have a toggle widget so i turn everything off if im not using it ... even 3g. I have no 4g too btw but its off. So off the charger at 7 and by 2pm the phone was at 50%. I streamed audio off 3g for about 3 hours used navigation for almost an hour and played saved music for not even an hour. Is this normal or is my battery bad? I feel like i would be at 50% with my iphone too without being cautious about battery saving

First off you're battery isn't calibrated yet. Let it drain completely till it dies, then let it charge till it is full, unplug it let it drain a bit then charge it again.

Second, that drain seems entirely in line with your usage.

Third, quite frankly there is no possible way you'd get anything close to that level of usage out of an iPhone. That is very heavy usage, only losing 50% off that level of use from a smartphone is spectacular. An hour of navigation is by itself a massive battery drain, and would probably get you to 50% drain by itself on the iPhone.

So do i have to download anything to calibrate and how much do i let it drain a bit before i put it back on the charger and is it best to charge when off?

You don't have to download anything, and you just need to let it drain a little, a few minutes of use is fine.

not for nothing.....that last 50% takes a looooooooong time to drain. i had an HD you tube video playing at the last 20%. i started the video at 6pm and finally at 830pm it finally died. so 2.5 hours for the last 20% while streaming HD video is pretty long time IMHO.

My iphone battery would drain 18% streaming Sirius for one hour, the Maxx less than 10%. The first few days my battery drained pretty fast on the Maxx. Didnt have much running. I normally do a factory reset on my phone after first week, before i start adding apps. Did that with the iphone too. This resets the battery meter, and gives a more accurate reading. Prior to factory reset, I would be down to 40% by bed, now 70%.

Great Thread I was about to start one myself.

I did this with my last 3 devices using LIPO batteries.

I just got mine yesterday. Was at 50% - charged it up a bit. Then went into kill mode.

Took me 4 hours from 50%. screen on, all active, 4g, downloading my old apps back, setup stuff, finally took running netflix.

Charged overnight on the stock charger (important step IMO). Will repost today with reults of nominal use. I expect to go 2-3 days per charge on it. I used to get a full day out of my DX. Day in a half if I checked my data useage.

Update: working on day 2 after full charge. music at work - occasionally text - email - some minor surfing today and yesterday. With a few tests from speedtest.net for 4g speed in my area.

Some calls too.Battery info shows 30% but it is still green indicated?

Will update tomorrow

I tried this a couple of times. It absolutely did nothing for my battery. I'm really disappointed with this Maxx battery. I am NOT impressed with it in the least.

I'm at 89 hours since last charged with 23% remaining. Badass Battery Monitor shows my average life is 3d15h. I never turn anything off, WiFi is connected at work and at home, BT in the car. I am what you would consider a light user, 1h40m on phone, 2-1/2 hours screen on, some internet browsing, weather viewing, about 32meg data, mostly on WiFi. I don't have any email or social network connected. Even though the battery monitor thinks I have almost a day left, I'll charge it tonight.
