Quite a few up here too in the home of Best Buy. Maybe they play by the book here since HQ is in town.

They are closing 3 or 4 stores here, and I suspect we are one of the test beds for the new standalone Best Buy Mobile stores. In fact I think there is one in Mall Of America already.

That's true. Yeah, I heard about their closing down many of the big Best Buy stores in favor of the small BB mobile stores in malls. There are already a couple of those in L.A.

Makes sense because there's really no way they can compete with the onine stores. Only time I've purchased stuff from Best Buy is when prices have obliterated anything online (which is rare).

I think that 3D is just a prototype and will never see the light of day. But I could be wrong.

3D was a niche market in tv, coming and going before finally catching on. Same could be happening with phones. The 3vo wasn't technically wrong, it did meet the promises made.

Oh man. I may just have to pick up the EVO 3D LTE if that comes to market. If it has everything the 4G LTE has with a second camera/parallax barrier, I'd totally get it.

Did anyone else notice from the videos that we're getting the scrolling wallpaper back? It's a bit disappointing that the carousel home screens had to go away though.

hope this is not too off topic,

I've never used samsungs ui which I believe is touchwiz...are there any functions on sense that are not on touchwiz and vice versa. mainly things that would make using the phone easier for the average user, or more user friendly? or is it just the aesthetics that pit one ui against the other?

Here's a little something I've been thinking of..

HTC adds a small section of plastic on a cell phone: "OMG THE PHONE LOOKS LIKE CRAP, I'M TOTALLY NOT BUYING IT"

Samsung makes the whole phone out of the same material: "Uhhh umm... Well, the screen has pretty colors!"

The later TouchWiz had functionality that earlier Sense didn't, such as notification bar functions and widget management.

As both become lighter and ICS expands, the differences are bound to narrow to mostly eye candy, with some minor function differences.

That's on the launcher.

When it comes to things like integrated contact management, Sense is likely to maintain the upper hand, depending on your needs and preferences.

Lmao! It's preference, so I really don't understand if you don't want to purchase (which I will) the phone don't get it! Whatever you like, people will defend until the end! And if the phone put's a distaste in your mouth, my comment in the section of the phone you hate!?

P.s. I'm speaking in general and not to you Richboy!;)

Most people have an issue with the glossy/matte finishes being mixed up. Not that it's plastic, but it's not normal plastic. It's polycarbonate.

form what I can tell.. I have htc phones... and friends have samsung..

there are just little things that you find in small places that make ownership enjoyable... htc just trys to add the little things.. sometimes they go to far.. but most.. it is good.

example 1... the lockscreen.. with the added features.
you can set the lockscreen to show different information.. not just a splash screen. Weather.. flying pictures of your favorite things/person.
4 quick launch buttons to jump to important apps.

example 2.. the lock down options... not for just waking up the phone but to also unlock the phone. Samsung charge, you can set the phone to use different lock (code or pattern or etc..); this takes effect once you put the phone in sleep.
but in htc evo, i can also add a time settings to the lock.. 1, 3, 5, 10, 15 minutes. So once I put the phone in sleep..it does not lock down till the set time has been reached. This is great if you are having a text conversation or doing research with on the phone. I am not constantly having to input the unlock command.

there are many more such examples..

Sense has and IMO will have forever the best contacts and phone app. I used to hate flashing to an AOSP or CMx Rom because I would lose the sense dialer on my HTC phones... And none of the dialer replacement apps are quite the same....

There's a lot of stuff I think has gone unnoticed about this phone. One important being is that the price is only 199. We compare it all day long with others but I think what of it's biggest advantages is that it's priced 50 bucks lower that recent big launches. Sprint definitely gets points on that front. If anything, El Tevo gives you much more bang for your buck.

I'm laughing at my own response to this because I never thought I'd be saying this pretty often, but "there's an app for that."...LOL.

Example 1 - Widgetlocker - WAY better than Sense's quick launch unlocker and worth purchasing from the app market. There are other alternative free options that allow the same funcitonality (e.g. quick launch apps) as Sense, but Widgetlocker just happens to be my favorite of all fo them (and it's supported by the awesome developers at XDA).

Example 2 - Motorola has the phone lock timer as well, so it's not a HTC exclusive.

Again, one beautiful thing about Android that I don't believe can be said about any other OS is, you can customize almost everything without even needing to attempt rooting the phone. I know because even though I likely will root, I still haven't after almost 2 years of using Android (EVO,Epic,LG Optimus, Photon). Android simplified phone modification (from the days of Windows Mobile and jumping through hoops for hours to customize), while allowing consumers to set their phone up for their own personal needs (which will always be different for everyone).

true.. there are many apps that do these and other things.. .but you most people arent comfortable to do these things.. while sense has them there for you.

with android... most everytime i thought i needed something... there was a way for it to be done.. or android to help with it. all you needed was time to research, search, try, and retry.. to get it.

if Sprint only gets the LTE version then the 4G on this phone will be useless for me since areas with WiMAX are low on priority for the network change.

actually that is totally the opposite, areas with Wimax will be high on priority for Sprint and the first to probably get LTE

Yup, by the link that TS had posted earlier, L.A. is on the schedule of first cities to get LTE, so that's a good thing. Wimax is so spotty in L.A. that I rarely use it when I'm not at work. And even at work, I use it for 20 minutes at the most.
