Ringtones

Does anyone know how to change to tone for texts and emails. At the moment I have to use the same tone for both, and I can't use my own tone for it either. If that makes sense.

What I'm basically looking for is:

Text tone: tone 1 that I've put onto the phone
Email tone: Tone 2 that I've put onto the phone.

Am I being completely thick or have I just missed something?

In both the gmail and messaging apps you can change the ringtone in the settings menu for each app. Just open, press menu, and go into the settings menu.

I'm being really thick I can't work it out.

I can change the ring tone, and the notification tone. But I can't have email and text as different tones, and not tones that I've uploaded to the phone.
