Eris 2.1 leak Bug's and Fixes

Does anyone have the insane urge to reflash just to reflash? If I do is there any experiments people want done?

Ok, I'll try again. Anyone know why the embedded browser doesn't work in some programs? For me it's not working in Huffpost (links to video or slideshow) and in the sync login for Remember the Milk from within Astrid. Just get an embedded browser screen within the app that says "Web page not available". I've tried changing the default browser to Dolphin, but no go there either. I noticed above that some folks are reporting that video links in Huffpost are working for them. Wonder whats wrong with mine. This is about my only big outstanding issue with the 2.1 leak, other than that everything else just seems minor. Thanks for any help.

Anyone? I asked this as well a few times, and didn't get a reply.

When I first installed 2.1, the pics kind of fixed themselves over the course of the day, but since then I have rebooted and for days now the pics are low-res shitty pics.

And as a matter of fact, how in the frick do I change the contact picture for someone, to some other picture of my choosing? I've tried setting the picture manually, but it reverts back to the facebook pic for that contact!

Thanks.

Here's how:
Go to the photos app, navigate to the photo that you want to use as your new contact photo. Long press that photo, and choose "set as". Choose contact photo. It will then prompt you to choose the person.

No need to unlink from Facebook.

I deleted the 0.3 version, downloaded and moved the 0.2 version to my card, installed from the App installer.....it installs, goes through the setup, but still only dials from the handsets #. Where's the double secret thing I'm missing?

Using the .2 version version worked for me. You say you went to the App installer, are you sure you installed the correct version. Check in settings for Google Voice and see if it installed ver 0.2.

Did you go to Settings>Applications and check UnKnown Sources?

I used Linda Manager to run .2 application from my SD card.

Hey droid users -

For battery sake I had gps off while running 1.5 - now that I running 2.1 it seems as thought I can't turn GPS off. If I have "locale on" it is now automatically turning GPS on as well. Anyone notice this?

Am I doing something wrong? : ) that is a loaded question.

Thanks
SGM

Thanks for the reply. I know about linking thing, but it's lame that in order to have a custom pic, you have to de-link the contact from FB.

I was able to have a custom pic for my contacts AND keep them linked to FB without the pic changing when I was on 1.5.

This is silly. :(

Yea, I haven't figured out a way to keep custom pics on contacts without unlinking them from facebook... That was not a problem in 1.5 and I do find it pretty annoying...

Also, with the stock messaging app, no matter if I've linked my contact to facebook or not it always shows their picture as the one from facebook. Anybody know how to fix that?! I mean if I took the time to get a custom picture for someone I obviously want that used everywhere...

This thread really should be stickied, in my opinion. There is a wealth of info here, plus the "leak" part of the topic title could be removed by an admin when the OTA comes out and its bugs are discovered over time.

Yep to all of the above. Build 0.2 listed at the bottom. Making calls set to - "Use Google Voice for all calls" - When I ran the 3rd party install it prompted me to select the 0.2 file I put on the card. I've retraced my steps about 5 times now, can't get it to make a call with GV. Sigh.

So starting Sunday my awake time spiked, I had downloaded a bunch of stuff so I figured I got a rogue program in there or something that wasn't quite tweaked for 2.1. Uninstalled everything and it was still happening? Downloaded Spare parts and it showed the Calendar app as the culprit in the partial wake usage?? So..I delete the agenda widget, which i think I also threw on there Sunday and stopped the calendar weather updates and all seemed ok. So as an experiment I plugged in my phone last night, then added back the agenda widget and it stayed "awake" all night. Removed it again rebooted and awake time seems normal again this morning, can someone else add the calendar agenda widget to a screen and confirm that I nailed it or has anyone experienced anything similar? I'll report back after the day goes on and I use the phone a bit more to see if the problem re-appears. Thanks

Also: on another note, the "time without signal thing" worked for me too, I didn't see that post until this morning but since i was on an airplane yesterday I had my phone in airplane mode. So worked for me too, and the signal meter thing, I say don't worry about it, was walking through one of the tunnels at the airport and happened to get a text, looked and saw the phone was on 1x with a very low signal, looked at the storm and it didnt have any service! I called my VM from the Eris and the call went through and connected, storm no go. I never would have believed any of you if you told me the Eris was better at pulling in a signal than a berry, but now I'm a believer! Got to activate one of my E815's now for the ultimate reception shootout! ;)

You were in airplane mode and not plugged in? Or were you on one of those planes with 'power points' and had the phone plugged in? My understanding of the airplane mode 'fix' is that the phone needs to be plugged in. Did you just debunk that?

The only reason anyone said it needed to be plugged in had to do with the fact that anyone who tried it unplugged (not charging) couldn't get it to reset. Maybe an extended amount of time in airplane mode would do it.

I have had the Calendar Agenda widget on my phone since boot and have not had problems with it. The only battery drainer that I had was the % without signal.

I wasnt plugged in, looked though after reboot the 50% without signal is back, but I havent seen where that caused me any issues battery wise. Battery still shows solid full.

I just can't figure out why my calender is keeping my phone awake? Good so far this morning? 15 minutes "awake" since unplugged at 6:30 am. I am synching mine and my wifes calenders? I wonder if it gets hung up on a change?

Woke up this morning and my mail notification ringtone was changed. It went from the crank yankers "you got mail" to some country song.

I seem to have lost authentication on my phone. Is calling Verizon my only fix? And more importantly, how did that happen? I have done the *228.

Have you done the *228 using option 1? That worked for me last night. I was having all kinds of problems. Couldnt even connect to the network. Used option 1, and I've been good to go.

ok so i dont have my charger with me and i just put my phone on airplane mode and left it for like a min or two then turned off airplane mode and voila my time without signal went from 50% to 0%....now i will say that it did make me log back into gmail.

this hasnt been a problem for me recently, but i have done like 5-10 reboots, since the 2.1 upgrade, and it only asked me to login the first 2-3 times before i did the *228 option 2 so idk...

EDIT: also watching my signal i noticed that i went from 1-2 bars to 3-4...

OTD i have to agree with you so many of these "fixes" make absolutely no sense but hey...they work...weird....

Does anyone else have trouble answer and calling .. I wil lhit send and it will take upwards of over 10seconds to actually answer or dial. It's just happened over the last 2 days. I've rebooted a couple times but that hasn't helped

Other then that my phone is running very well with the only other bug is programs like UrbanSpoon won't link to the web

yes my dialer has been laggy.....full list of issues >I< have experienced

laggy phone app

phone a little laggy while downloading apps from market

for some reason my ringtone gets reset to factory default on reboot, also have the intermittent login error on reboot. i dont reboot much so not a real problem, just saying.

sms error in handcent, message not sent, although it has been sent. happened a few times, seems to be ok now though.

can't send mms, can receive though

I haven't run into any problems with the actual phone portion of the phone. The dialer is really snappy now and the answer/send/end functions work almost instantaneously.

I'm sure this has been posted elsewhere but I can't find it. GMail needs to be logged back into after I power off then power on. At no other time does it just require me to log back in. However, my yahoo mail does not do that. It works perfectly.

Does that mean its a gmail server problem or a verizon server problem? Is there anyway to tell where the problem exist? Especially since I have no issues with my yahoo account syncing up.

If I had to guess at this, it could probably be happenning because whatever service that is needed for gmail to access your stored credentials isn't starting before the gmail services start, therefore gmail is not able to automatically sign in.

Just a guess, though.

I can't seem to find it on this post but I remember reading it. There is a calendar issue where events are posted on the calendar app on the wrong day, even though they're in exchange on the correct day? This could've been disastrous for an important meeting, but I knew the date was wrong. When I opened up the event in the calendar app, it displayed the correct date. I hit save and it moved to the correct day. It was just one day off---I thought I remember reading someone else with those issues...

Just an article about an update to 2.1 for the Nexus One and that it includes updates to files in system/app. Wondering if the *.apk files from that could be grabbed and attempted on the Eris ?
