I'm not posting this to be a jerk at all. I just starting using/learning about android a few months ago and love it. The og evo is my first device, and I used sense roms for about my first month with the phone. However, after discovering aosp, I really dislike sense, and I don't imagine I would enjoy touchwiz/blur/etc.. either. Anyone care to share their thoughts about why they like sense? I'm not posting to flame those who like sense. I'm just curious.
I haven't read through the pages of posts...but personally...I move around from ROM to ROM weekly, or at least used to. I'll find a really good ROM then a few problems arise and I move quickly to another ROM. Here are my personal pros and cons:
Sense:
pros-stable, reliable, almost all features work, 4G is almost always guaranteed to be here, I've seen faster network speeds on Sense versus AOSP, more friendlier feel, less of a hassle, less bugs, more is known on the software, apparently Sprint doesn't trip if you bring in a phone that has a Sense ROM for most issues (but I always unroot my device before bringing it in for service...even if they only will look at it), more support from developers, etc.
cons-usually
ugly lol, doesn't have good kernels mostly because HTC refuses to release code, bad battery life compared to most AOSP ROMs, less uniqueness, too much of that crappy bloatware from HTC and Sprint, usually doesn't have a good wifi hotspot feature but if it has the hacked one, I've seen it run better than AOSP hotspots, most of the times, even developers will have their own bloatware that's hard to get off like my current ROM, Energy, has Facebook built into the ROM so I can't delete it like normally, usually there is no A2SD support, etc.
AOSP:
pros-more unique feel and look, more features usually, less bloatware especially from developers, usually has more of a "vanilla" feel and look (none of that HTC garbage), sometimes has USB/wifi hotspot built into Settings, usually is supported better if the developer(s) actually own the device, usually has A2SD support, etc.
cons-sometimes slower in network speeds, if there are problems, sometimes the problems are really bad like bootloops that make the phone unusable, sometimes support is low because the developer like MIUI works on more than one device, sometimes features are missing like front camera, 4G, HDMI, etc., sometimes key components won't work like the phone or texting making the phone terrible for those that need the phone, etc.
I was on MIUI for a few weeks/months? before switching back to a Sense ROM. MIUI was too slow, didn't have 4G...I just needed something better. Then I started having problems like random bootloops and it was getting on my nerves and touch screen issues, so I moved back to Sense. I liked CM7 but it just had too many major problems for me that I was forced to leave. Other than those major problems, I would've stayed. Things may be different now.
All in all, I'm thinking about going back to the stock ROM but keeping my root status just because each of these ROMs, no matter if they're Sense or AOSP, have some really bad problems that are sometimes impossible to solve and really get to you when you try to show people how cool your phone is. You'll see after using a few more ROMs the differences. And our differences and opinions are usually on a more personal level in regards to look and use. Some people like a simple screen, others like something more vibrant. Some people don't mind not having wifi hotspot while others do. It all depends on you really and what your taste is. When I first started, I loved Sense then after trying an AOSP ROM, I was like you then I turned into who I am today lol it's a fun journey
