Help What am I doing with this razr

thunders

Lurker
I have a few questions that is really frustrating me on the razr, its my first Andriod phone.

How do you stop WIFI from turning back on by itself?

I had my speed dial set yesterday, now tonite they were all gone?

How can you clear one phone number in history? When I clear it,its dumps all calls received, called and missed.

Also my battery gets down to 30% in about 6 hours with very little use?

Anyone else having these issues?

All help will be appreciated.

Some ideas embedded below.

I have a few questions that is really frustrating me on the razr, its my first Andriod phone.

How do you stop WIFI from turning back on by itself?
A: When you say it's turning back on by itself, are you literally disabling wi-fi in the menu or via a widget, or do you just mean you're leaving the area where that wi-fi network is located? If you're just leaving the location, that doesn't turn wi-fi off - wi-fi is still on, you're just out of range for that network. If you're literally turning off wi-fi, that's not something I've heard of. Do you have "notify me when an open network is available" turned on in the wi-fi settings by chance?

I had my speed dial set yesterday, now tonite they were all gone?
A: I've never heard of this one, but I don't use speed dial. I just set favorites in my Gmail contacts, and then show favorites in my contact list.

How can you clear one phone number in history? When I clear it,its dumps all calls received, called and missed.
A: Try long-pressing on that entry and then "erase from list".

Also my battery gets down to 30% in about 6 hours with very little use?
A: I can go two days before getting to 30% sometimes, so I'd say this is definitely not normal. What is using your battery? Go to settings, battery information, battery use. That will show what is using your battery. Keep in mind that's a percentage of the used battery percent. So if you're at 90% (for example), and it shows that Android OS used 80%, that means it used 80% of that 10% that has been used.

Anyone else having these issues?

Have you browsed around here and tried the suggestion of draining your battery completely 2-3 times? Wait until your phone turns itself off from loss of power and then leave it off while you charge it up to full.

Wifi does not affect battery life significantly either on or off, so don't worry too much. Its the same for Bluetooth.

What you need to do is set up "Smart Actions" in your apps. Its there, and you need to set it up as its on every motorola razr phone. Its a Godsend for battery life. You can choose from multiple settings or create your own. *** One bit of advice though, make sure you set up a timeframe under "Triggers". I made mine to be called 24/7 and set up for all hours and days of the week. Basically I have mine set so that when the display turns off, my wifi, gps, mobile data and background sync are also turned off.

Background sync is what kills your mobile phone battery as its downloading and seeking info from emails and facebook, etc even when your phone is asleep/display off.

Hope this advice isn't too late and helps you. My phone lasts 2-3 days without a charge with only minimal use (Only about 1 to 2% per hour drain).

Not true. If you have those on and not connected, the phone is constantly searching and attempting to connect, which drains the battery very quickly. If you don't believe me, test it out yourself.

As for determining what uses the battery, I too, am getting a pretty quick drain and not lasting two days as others say. Get BetterBatteryStats, Watchdog, or BadAssBatteryMonitor to get more detail on what is causing the drain.

I do not turn off my data when the phone sleeps, as I hate having to refresh every time pick it up. It lasts the day, which is fine. Smart Actions are good, but there are apps that do the same things, and if you set refresh intervals and other settings correctly, you don't necessarily need to use Smart Actions. It's your choice.

True. I Just leave Bluetooth and WiFi on all the time. Relatively speaking it's not a big battery drain.

Have you gone to the Battery Manager in Settings and taken a look at what is using up most of your battery?

Don

My worst battery drain was having 4G on in areas with no or even worse, very weak 4G service. I switched to 3G only and have fantastic battery life. If I am in an area with known decent 4G signal I will switch it back.
