Verizon location option

On the RAZR, there are three location settings... Google, GPS, and Verizon. How exactly does the Verizon location work? Does it use extra data or cost me more money to use?

Verizon, or any carrier based location services is based on tower triangulation.

So can you freeze the Verizon Location Agent? or No?

I froze mine, no problem I can see yet. I never checked it anyway so it was aways off. Maybe needed for Verizon Nav. Anybody actually pay for that?

I used it last weekend to nav my way to jacksonville fl. last weekend for a concert and never once did it ask for a payment, or to change/add to my data plan. It worked well thoe, and no lag anywhere.

Hopegully i wont get any charges ill update if any occur.

There is a free version and a paid version for VZ Navigator.

Google Maps works very well. Use the "Stand Alone GPS", and it only activates the GPS when the App is opened. You can set it as the default navigation, and it gives turn by turn directions. No charge.

I've only had one time where Google Maps (Navigation) lead me on a wild goose chase, other than that it has been very good.

My only frustration is with the voice recognition for telling Google Maps where I need to go. It's had me screaming at the phone several times (in frustration) because Google's number input method is clearly for people from another planet...

Just paid my bill and nothing to indicate any new charges or plan changes, so maybe i fell thru a loop hole in vzw. Idk.
