[Official] Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE Pre-release thread - Sprint official launch is Saturday, June 2

Won't phones need an OTA (software update) before then too?

The suppression signal is on the Sprint side, so no update is needed on the phone to handle the switch change.

However, the LTEvo has some sort of LTE provisioning bug, solution is under escalation, so like the Evo with its launch day update and the 3vo with its launch weekend update, I expect that this baby will continue the tradition and have a very early update.

How confident am I? Very. ;) :)

I'll just throw a suggestion out for people considering this --

Think about whether a $50 Best Buy card is worth it for you. There's still value in an Evo 4G (or any other Android phone you are retiring) in that, if you should lose, break, or have your phone stolen, you will wish you had a functional Android phone around to get you through however many days you need to get a replacement -- in other words, having a backup will not make you desperate!

I remember reading about someone in the forums here whose phone was lost in water a week or two ago... the decision was to either get the HTC Evo 3D now or wait, phoneless for a month for the LTEvo. I'm sure if he had a backup, that decision would be a lot easier to make.

That was me. :)

I kept my Evo as a backup, so there was no panic.

Keeping my 3vo as a backup, too.

The Evo Shift dried out and is doing fine.

Now trying to sort out how we might go about getting two EL TEvos this month anyways. :)

Good point! I will be keeping my OG EVO, for that very reason. Being my OG EVO is still a virgin (Never Rooted) I will be using my OG EVO to learn the art of Rooting now though :) As my LTEVO will be at my side for the extra.boost of confidence ;)

im in the same boat. upgrade is due 1 june.

i called a while ago to sprint account services. homegirl i spoke with will push my upgrade up to 18 may.

the rub? she cant submit it until 6am CDT on 18 may.

best sprint can do is two weeks earlier than your scheduled upgrade eligibility.

so i went to bby and preordered as an UPGRADE and had to pay no money down. i posted an image of the receipt in the pre release thread and it states 18 may as an estimated date.

Just did same :) No money down. She couldnt technically acknowledge my upgrade on the 18th, she just said "The morning of the 18th we should be able to upgrade you". Then she hinted at "Of course, just in case, your speaker may not be working when you come in....right ;)"

I may get flamed to death for this, but I am now seriously considering the Iphone 4s. Reason is because I never use 4g..I mean ever. It drains my battery so fast that it is useless. So that saves me I believe $10 a month on sprint..correct?

Besides the screen size, which is not a huge deal to me..would I not get more battery life using the iphone on Sprint?

I know there are some serious fanboys here, so rational people who are not personally invested into phones..I would appreciate your responses.

The EVO LTE is clearly a beast specwise..but that does not always translate to real world usability for me.

$10 fee isn't connected to 4g. It's now called a "premium data" fee and is charged to all smartphones.

I got tired of dealing with Craigs List and I wiped my phone and the guy was a no sow and messaged me at the last minute saying sorry he couldn't buy it now. I took 150 for my old EVO from Sprint when I bought the 3D. It is easier to just let the store buy it back but I put my 3D on Craigs List just to see cause I have so many accessories. I have a friend who's son cracked his screen so I think I might be selling mine with accessories for a decent price. Sprint said the 3D is worth 90 and Best Buy said there giving 110. Which still is ok since the phone is costing me 150 I would take it if I had too.

They tried telling me about there Black Tie 9.99 a month deal and I asked Sprint if there's was going up to 11 and I was told only on certain phones like the iphone but then I was told by someone else it depends on what the full retail price of the phone is.

black tie is for this reason :)

and although $50 is kinda cheep ($70 at sprint, still somewhat cheap) it helps not having to hastle with ebay, which is HARD for a first time seller to get a good value on a sold product.

Got my order in around 8 this morning.
This is my first preorder though Sprint.
Those that have done this before... what carrier will be delivering? Will they leave the device without a signature?

Really looking forward to this OG Evo replacement. Eagerly anticipating Sprint working with HTC to allow unlocking the bootloader via HTCDev site, unlike the AT&T One X.

And finally...
What do you guys plan on doing with your "old" device?
I don't know if I should keep my Evo or trade it in to try to offset some of the cost.

Come on tracking info!

The iPhone wont save you 10 a month. All smartphones pay the 10dollar premium data fee.

the ONE X viewing angle BLEW me AWAY... i literally lost focus not because of the extreme angle but because it was too hard to read letters and numbers that skewed haha...

MY eyes failed before the SCREEN did!

I dropped by T-Mobile today because there was one on my way to lunch and had a look at the One S. Is this the same screen as the One X and the Evo LTE?

Thanks!

No, Not the same screen at all. the EVO LTE has a Much better screen. The One S is qHD (quarter HD resolution) and the EVO LTE has a 720p HD screen.

I will be keeping mine, mainly for a back up. I will be using it also as my lab mice to explore all the things I was affraid of before LTEVO. :) I.E. tether, ICS, full hdmi, etc. Basically to practice flashing roms and diffrent kernels etc. I know there will come a time to root LTEVO and want be confident in doing so:)

I'll be keeping my Evo 4G, just for nostalgia purposes mostly. I had the best moments of my entire life with this phone in my possession and that's really special to me and I want to have it forever due to it being a part of this era of my life that I probably won't top for decades to come.

My mom's Evo though will be getting traded in or sold somehow. I paid for hers the first time and am paying for her to get an LTE now, so I can do whatever with that one to try and help with the costs.

Well after the Pre order this morning I am sure most of us went from will ship out on May 15th to being on back ordered to now "we don't have a release date, but will ship out 1 - 3 days after the announcement.

Well I checked our account and we had a bill due and the amount I paid this morning went towards that bill so I called Sprint just to make sure there would not be a problem getting the phone. I was told that the system will apply that payment to any amount due and then when the phone ships, your account will be charged the amount of the phone you are supposed to be paying example $199+.

Well just pay your normal bill and it will seem you have more credit, but it may not be a surprise later on. I also asked the rep that rocked and again just making sure there would not be a problem and she told me the order is out there. So I asked "so it's at the warehouse and they are just waiting on the word?" I was told yes and as soon as they get the word they will ship it.

Glad to know its at the warehouse just waiting for it to be shipped.

I think it's safe to say that sprint knew exactly what is was doing with the may 18th date business. it's not a coincidence that darn near most people who bought the OG, and 3vo are upgrade eligible on June 1. seeing as how they are wanting this phone on the fast track for release, there's no way that they would allow all of us to just get super pissed. if our upgrade dates were July 1, Im pretty sure the phone would be released 14days prior and vice versa, or something like that. there's no chance they don't want this thing in all our hands as soon as it comes out...my two cents

day one OG EVO owners even on a two year contract have been eligible for upgrades 2 months and 2 weeks before june 1st (its a 22 month upgrade cycle for ALL customers, and you can always have sprint push it up 2 weeks from that date)

nm i see you are talking about 3v0 owners now

no, I believe you are correct in that I was referring to both phone owners...I stand corrected, but i still can't help but feel sprint is doing their very best to accommodate people and adjusted the date accordingly. and I ain't mad at them either. what a bonus to initially think June, and now get a two week early present!

My status doesn't look nearly as encouraging as the May 15th one. My pre-order was placed at 6:09am PST. Has anyone else seen this message?

Status:
Thanks for pre-ordering a shiny new HTC EVO 4G LTE, an email will be sent the second it ships. The launch date for this handset will be announced in the next few days, thank you for your patience. Delivery should occur within 1 to 3 business days thereafter. You may continue to track the status of your order on this web page. If you have questions, check out sprint.com/preorder for more info.

1-3 days after the announcement of the launch date? Or after the actual launch date? The later would upset me a bit...

looks like you're in good shape to me. if they announce release date in several days, and then it ships days later, it should match up with that may 15 or right around that date.

You had no issues pre ordering through best buy? I called Best Buy Mobile (stand alone store) and the guy was very helpful but he tried to put me in their system as a pre order and he said it won't let him for an upgrade because i'm not due till 6/1 (same thing with Sprint.com). He just added me to the list and not in the system. He said they are calling people in order on the list anyway so it wouldn't make a difference. He said my new EVO would be there on release day since i was #2 on the list. :)
