Root Need elementary answer to get rid of system updates

Moving thread to the rooted section. Question has to do with rooted device. Thx

Sometimes it would be nice if the person opening a new thread to ask a question would let some mofos know if they got their problem solved, their prevail burst into flames on their dresser or something

LOL, I agree with you 110% JWH. I've been left hanging several times after suggesting a solution for a problem. I guess that the suggestion ended up working and they get soooooo happy that they forget to come back and let me know it solved their problem. heehee:p

Lol right right. I'm tickled freakin pink when I find a solution, no doubt, but I try to put it up in case someone else has the same issue. By the way how's the moderating? :)

It's going well so far. I just haven't been able to spend as much time on here as I want to do to the fact that I just started a new job and school is keeping me busy. Oh........ just got my mid term grade back too.... A . Not 2 bad for a fella that hasn't been to college in 20+ yrs. :D

Thank you so much for that explanation. I'm not an idiot, but the techy side of androids gets to be a little too much for me. I appreciate your help.

Okay I'll attempt to assist you with this issue. Breaking down what Caeadas said in layman's terms. First you need to change an important file in order to stop the notification to update. This file is called "Build.prop". Here is a provided link to a free app in the play store to edit it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...xLDEsImRlLmJ3dWxmZXJ0LmJ1aWxkcHJvcGVkaXQiXQ..

After installing that it will request superuser access just like titanium backup did when you first used it. Also it will create a backup copy of your current build.prop file. Now the only thing you need to change to stop notification is one line. Look for "ro.build.version.incremental=" and change that EJ06(what you currently have) to FA19(which is the name of the new update). This will stop the notification since your phone will think it already has the update. If you can not find this line you can create it from within the Buildprop editor app. Good luck and I hope this works for you.

sorry for my slow response- life has kept me from getting back on the post, but I have followed these instructions tonight and anticipate good things. I will let you know in a few days if the update requests go away.

also try a ctmod or cm7 or 9 and won't ever get them again:D:D:D

actually, he is a she. I followed all instructions and waited a couple of days. It did not work. I am still getting system update requests. I have powered off and on 2-3 times.

I lookes back can't find whoever told you instructions on what to do so what'd they tell you to do that isn't working?

I followed these instructions from Riotpump:

autostarts is what i used before i put a rom on and now with a rom don't have to worry about it. i will look up how i did it and get back to you. unless someone else does first and no problem with that. also i went in to root explorer and when they send that update you need to remove it and you will gain 15 or whatever it is mb. it is in your phone, boost puts it there and when you click update it will install. so for more space good to get rid of.

use autostarts, open it and then click on after startup, then look for google services framework, (there should be 4 of them)select the one that has the word update in it (i think the 3rd one down) and disable it. (if you click on one and its not it just cancel, no harm on just clicking. and then need to get it out of phone to get your 15mb lost memory back. i think autostarts is like 99 cents though. you can use it for startups and disable apps and stuff to make phone run better. not hope this helps but this will help.

my phone is rooted- will autostarts change that? will i have to re-root? I don't want to do that if possible.

no won't unroot or anything like that, won't change anything by just doing the stop update but stop the update. you can use it for stopping startup to free ram memory. i used it before using a rom and worked like a charm.

"and then need to get it out of phone to get your 15mb lost memory back."

I disabled. Now, how do I get the 15mb back?

i cant remember but when i looked in root ex. it is a zip file that says(sp (and some other stuff like sph-m820-bst) to fa 19), delete that and will get the 15 or i think it's 19 mb memory back. sorry don't know exact info on it. just have to search in system and any or all of those type folders in root ex. till find it. it's not on sd for sure on that.

its root explorer, from play store. it lets you browse and change stuff on just about anything to do and with the phone.
you would download it then open it then scroll down to system, then click it then scroll down to framework and click it then look for the sp.......tofa19 zip and delete it. all is good.

i'm pretty sure that is where you find it?

sorry, but what/where is root ex?
why haven't you tried a rom, just asking? i didn't either till the update was bothering me. then did all this with autostarts and was happy till didn't have enough memory. used a2sd, and all those. but now switched to ctmod and WOW!!! what a difference. runs so good and more memory to do whatever you want than know what to do with.
