So I could probably use more than 4gb of ram if I upgrade the bios? Hmmm... But the risks involved with that could leave my Mobo bricked right? And yea I know ddr2 ram is quite expensive... although I got 4gb of ddr2 (2x 2gb sticks) used for cheap...

Upgrading bios is just like flashing rom ....(it is flashing rom actually )
Its easy but it can brick device any time ...
I had an ati card whose bios I used to modify and flash every second day till I screwed it ....
I never tried it on my newer card...
4 gb ram is more than enough ( switch to linux )

Well I am more comfortable flashing roms on an android phone than my laptop lol.

Anyways according to crucial's site my laptop should be able to support 8gb max. 4gb in each slot.

Nice... 6 gb is awesome, 8 gb will be xtreme

also hella expensive... Like $100 used for 2 4gb sticks of ddr2 ram... Although with 8gb of ram and a C2D it should run like a champ... and throw in a SSD... Too bad I have an integrated graphics card...

maybe... It will have to wait til next payday though... if I do decide to get one...

This is how helpful HP's site is LMAO

HP said:
Operating System Amount of RAM memory supported
Windows XP 1-2 GB
Windows 7 and Windows Vista 32-bit 2-4 GB (Only about 3 GB will be used by the operating system)
Windows 7 and Windows Vista 64-bit Any amount of RAM is supported by the operating system.

You can't even get decent support as regards chipset even at the intel site .
If your bios supports 64 bit os , 8 GB ram is possible .

Yes my BIOS supports 64 bit os. That's all I use. So it would be between ram or a SSD... Or both if I can find them for cheap enough...

Get ssd first then think of ram if you even feel the need . If you don't game or use system heavy apps like cad/cam or you don't use virtualisation much then even 4 gb is overkill....

Well I do game a small bit... More like try to... I can't even run minecraft with my current setup although with my C2D I should be able to run it better.

Anyways I'm off to sleep...

Yowsa! That's extreme . Hmm..not sure why I'm up this early but might as well use it to be productive;)
