Root Possible Reboot FIX!

IMUcarmen

Android Expert
Just wanted to let you guys know that I may have found a fix for the reboots, and whats causing them.

The cause seems to be restoring apps no matter what backup and restore app you use. I've used RTB pro and TB pro to restore apps and get reboots with both. I have had reboots with eclipse and BO.

Here's the fix. I don't know if this is 100percent but please everyone who is having issues report back after you try this.

I was on eclipse up until 2 days ago and decided to try out broken out 3 for the third time (can't help myself from flashing :P ) and when I did, I also decided not to wipe data just to see how well it would run, and if I would get any bugs. So I flashed BO 3 with no data wipe and all went perfect. Since then I haven't had one reboot. I've been on broken out for 2 days with 0 reboots.

You may be thinking, so what, wheres the fix. Here's my thinking...I had already restored my apps on eclipse, so I think simply reflashing the rom after you restore your apps will stop the reboots. I don't think it will matter if you are coming from eclipse or not. All I think you need to do to stop the reboots is make sure you reflash the rom without wiping data after restoring your apps.

Try this out guys and report your results.

PS. this is not applicable to those having reboots with the docking. I don't use this feature.

I've flashed a few different ways and I've found its restoring data for apps from rtb that causes the reboots. When I stopped restoring app data with rtb, the random reboots stopped too. If you didn't wipe data, you'd experience the same as not restoring data, so that makes sense you stopped seeing reboots.

I don't know if restoring with mybackuppro causes reboots, but I'm inclined to believe the issue is rtb... It seems to not save or restore data on this phone properly.

I actually dont use RTB to restore apps. I only use TB because it restores ivona voice properly where RTB never does. I can never get ivona voice to work with a RTB restore but it always does with TB. But I have been using RTB to restore misc data, but only started this recently. I used to always forget to backup my messages and calls and dictionary etc...

But I don't think it matters what you use as long as you do a simple reflash of the rom. I hope people getting reboots will try this!

I have been on 3.0 since release with no reboots.
TB was used to install apps and some system data.
So, TB cannot be the sole cause of reboots.
(Note: I wiped data before flashing 3.0, and then wiped dalvik cache once installed - 3.0 has literally been flawless.)

Hope this helps your troubleshooting.

I have been using MyBackup Root to restore all my apps and data. havent been having any reboot issues. I when i do a restore i usually do apk+data too. I will also use it to restore sms, mms, and call log. Restore my adw+ data also. Anybody else use this app having different results?

Fyi adw has a backup and restore of data built in function.

I do use titanium to backup to restore "application widgets" which (most of the time) puts my widgets right back after a wipe and flash, although app organizer widgets always fail to load after being restored.

I didnt think it was possible to restore widgets. I know none of mine ever work after a flash and restore and I've done probably 50 or more flashes. Probably 30 on my spectrum.

The outline of the widget is always there but the widget itself does not appear properly.

Did the same and did not get one reboot. But when I erased all data from eclipse reboot after reboot for a couple of days . Now still on b.o no reboots guess it needed to settle

Yea, I've never been able to get widgets to restore... There are blank boxes where they should be but not active widgets I assumed its how rtb stores the data.

All widgets except the apps organizer ones restore fine... Maybe fingering the Dev can look into... I'll shoot then a line tomorrow

I'd love to know what you're doing different than I, because I've never been able to restore widgets on this phone or any of my 3 droids. I assumed its a limitation in Android, since widgets are user launched.

I'm planning to do a nandroid tonight and install eclipse .2 , I'll try to record each step and check after each one to see which one does it. (normally I just run through everything and reboot)

Ok, none of the widgets loaded after flashing, some of them I have to run the app once before they work after flashing, I am going to flash again in a few minutes here, I'll try running the apps first, then restoring the widgets.

After I flashed Eclipse v0.2 everything seemed fine for a few hours, then I left my house and the phone dropped 4G in a known good 4G area and went on roam for almost an hour, even a reboot did not resolve it... not sure what happened, but it was back on 4G when I checked it again after about an hour... Other than that, I noticed that my notification bar wifi toggle widget always shows on even when the system settings showed it as off. this was resolved after a reboot. (note wifi was on after flashing the Rom and I used the notification bar pull down to turn it off, and it worked normally, it wasn't until the next time I pulled the bar down that this issue started. 4 reboots later and a bunch of app configs, it was workign as normal, just like the 4G.

I also had 2 random reboots withing the first 30 minutes, once almost immediately after flashing, then again, I was in the google market installing a pair of updates I must have missed before I flashed, the phone froze (screen on) for about 25 seconds, then the 4G data icon on the notification bar flashed on then off, then 10 more seconds and the phone restarted. No issues in the last 5 hours though.
