[Tegra 3] New update on its way?

El Presidente

Beware The Milky Pirate!
This only applies to the International, Tegra 3 version.

According to the ARHD thread over on XDA, there's a new RUU floating about with the software number 2.05.401.2. It's only in testing at the moment, but it looks to bring the Android version to 4.0.4, a new radio (2.1204.119.17) and the option to remove that stupid 3 dot menu bar!

I've only just got my replacement handset, so I'm not rooting etc yet and I can't find a changelog so I'm not entirely sure what else this update will bring.

Are there any bugs/issues still outstanding from the 1.29.xxx.11 release?

That looks promising! But some bugs still seem unresolved. Here are the ones that have been bothering me:

- Sense homescreen and app drawer stuttering
- Live wallpaper stuttering - very likely linked to the above
- Overheating when running seemingly simple tasks - this seems to be improved with that 2.05 update
- Sometimes erratic behaviour of the stock keyboard, especially in browder. Sometimes pops, then disappears. Have to press in a text input box to make it reappear.
- stuttering in the Weather app
- stuttering when pressing contact icons (when the menu of actions shows up)
- (not a bug but) would be nice to be able to hide apps from the app drawer

That's all i can think of for now. I've been using Apex launcher for 3 weeks now, so some Sense bugs are no longer bothering me. Still, if they can fix it, i'd happily return to it (love some of the widgets!).

Looking forward to getting this RUU myself, i did catch a rumor a little while ago about new tegra 3 drivers coming for the ics kernel.
Here's hoping that this is going to be the update that finally proves that samsung made a huge mistake with no power saving core, & we finally get the outstanding battery life that some people are claiming is possible on the HOX.

I'm also hoping it will close that embarrassing gap in the benchmarks between this and the s3 that suroot posted :)

^Agreed, I'm still interested to see it though.

My old Desire HD running CM7 would score 15-20% higher in benchmarks than my mates Sensation, but when it came to things like intensive web pages, games etc, his handset would wipe the floor with mine.

It is towards the bottom if the thread (not sure how you link to a single post)

It is an unfair comparison as his s3 was rooted with a custom kernel - but still.

What is good is that HTC seem to be listening, and we are getting updates. Wonder how the s3 will fare a few months in... :)

(Don't want this thread to turn into a hox v s3 thread though - more interested in what HTC has in store for us)

Some of the benchmarks i have seen being posted over at xda using the beta ruu look pretty close to the SGS3 & there is claims of much improved battery life & stability too. Looks like the SGS3 wont have a gap at all between it & the HOX in performance anymore & may be made to look silly with battery life.
It already feels in my opinion to be an inferior quality phone to the HOX.

does anyone know if the update will fix the bluetooth function to the point of permitting voice dialing/commands from capable headsets? apparently htc is aware of the problem and has been promising a fix, although, to be fair, from what i've read the suggestion is that the problem lies with ics itself.

Very excited about this, more battery would always be welcome.

My issue is, that I have a THREE branded phone, and it's on 1.28.771.9 (no updates available) so I'm not holding my breath that this will make it to my handset anytime soon.

If I have it unlocked, will I get more timely updates?

I don't think so. Even with it unlocked (and with a different sim card in), it is still a 3 phone, so it relies on 3 shipping the update.

However, somebody said on the XDA thread that the reason 3 didn't ship the last (1.29) update was that they were preparing for the next one (i.e. this one) - so you may get a nice surprise.

(not sure I would hold my breath though)
