Help iPhone contacts, copy or sync to SGS3 HELP

I need help, and I bet many others as well.

just on how to copy my iPhones contacts to the new Samsung Galaxy S3.

There are apps that claim to can be used to sync SGS3 with iTunes... that may work.

But how to store iPhone's contacts on iTunes? Seams impossible.


Any suggestions on how to not manually get this conacts into the S3?
 
Can't you just export a .csv to your phone and text/email it to yourself, then download it to your S3 and import it?
 
I too am migrating from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy 3. All of my data is on a mac, and I've downloaded EasyPhoneSync on both my device and my iMac, running 10.7, and it all works, the software detects the phone, but then says there's a problem with the USB connection, and doesn't go any further. I've set my device to debugging mode in USB in the developer options, but no joy.

My feeling is that it's something to do with the way that the Mac's USB sees my device (I've tried multiple ports), and certainly the device does not show up on my desktop as storage. I'm going to get a memory card to see if that helps in any way, but otherwise I'm tearing my hair out, as this was one of the main reasons why I bought the S3!.

I guess I can find a way to export my contacts from the Mac Address Book and import them into Google contacts, but it's a bit inelegant, in my opinion. Hey ho - usual teething problems.
 
I was under the impression that the iPhone can sync contacts with a Google account.

All of my contacts are on my iPad. I'm just not sure if it's one way syncing (ie it'll download them but not upload changes and new contacts!)
 
This was my solution to the contacts problem - I exported the contacts from Mac Address Book, as a .vcf file, and then just imported them via Google Contacts manager.
Not perfect, but at least the info is there, and I can refine it using search and favourites.

As for Mattye's impression that the iPhone can sync with Google contacts - I've not found anything about this - there is a box you can check in Mac Address Book that syncs an address book with Google contacts (and Yahoo as well, if you're that way inclined), and this apparently works via iSync. Well, it didn't work for me, but I wasn't going to go into it any more deeply.

Now I'm trying to get my music over - again, Double Twist doesn't see my S3, so I think the issue is the way the iMac sees my phone.

I'm going to look into the Google account thing a bit more and post back. My iPad has definitely downloaded my Google contacts; I just need to check that contacts created and modified on the iPad are updated in my Google account.

It is disabled with icoud turned on in the mac
My post above is the best way I have spent many hours into this
 
Dfran - my apologies for not reading your post more closely - I've downloaded it, and it seems to work fine - it's now duplicated everything in my contacts file, but I can work around this. Thanks a lot!

Yes BUT the benefits of doing it my way, way out performs the Google way

Now people can (and usually) have apple and android devices and never ever have to worry about contacts and calendar.

Yes they loose contacts and Calender on any computer (but they can import them from time to time if they use it that way) the only time I use Google on a computer is to print an email and that works fine

Now for mac people I use Chrome in which I sync bookmarks, computer to my zoom and hopefully siii when it comes in (Verizon here) and I use a program (bookmacster) to export them (it can sync but I had bad luck with that in the past and don't want anything to get screwed up) to safari and firebox and others maybe also, so I have my bookmarks on ios and android.
 
when I had my iphone I had all my contacts synced to google. When I got my new phone google auto installed them.

That's what my friend is doing also but once you are done then you will never get that again.
Make sure you turn off contacts and calendar if you use it in your sync see my link above for how.
Also if anybody uses that please thank my in my post link above

Here's what you do to sync everything to your Google account. I KNEW there was a way and I've just confirmed it on my iPad.
Go to settings - mail, contacts and calendar - add account... Add your Google account as an exchange account and use "m.google.com" as the server. Leave domain blank.

Once you've done this it should sync all your Google contacts to your device. To get it working the other way, go back into mail, contacts and calendar and change the default account under contacts to "Google" or whatever you just named your new account. This will copy all of your existing contacts to your Google account which can then be used by your Android phone.

The benefit of doing it this way is that your Android and iOS devices will stay in sync without any third party software and without you having to do anything.

Tried and tested :)

Also; Apple doesn't officially support iCloud syncing on non-Apple devices as far as I know, so who knows how long the app will work for?

This is good but for mac users I think there is no way to sync Google contacts in mac contacts after one activates icloud so hopefully these sync programs keep on getting updated

I know it's not the same as having them integrated natively, but you can login to your Google account in a web browser and access your contacts that way. At least the information is available; it just means you'll have to copy/paste the information to use it.

I googled it and there are websites that say it's possible to keep Macs in sync with a Google account, but the links I found are from the pre-iCloud days so I expect things have changed since then.

Can you edit them on both devices? Your way?
If not then my way is the best and only way and if the connector (program) stops working and the developer stops updating then one just need to export and import

Add/edit/delete works on both devices and is reflected in both devices.

Updates are not pushed so they're sometimes not reflected in other devices immediately. You can force an update on Android by going into accounts and sync and pushing the "sync now" button, but I'm not sure how to get iOS to force an update. It only took about 2 minutes to update anyway.

The best thing about this method is that it's official and supported by both parties.

you can export from iCloud.com from a computer and import them into Google from that same computer
log in
go to contacts
(this is the tricky part) you need to select all for all contacts or select the ones you want
hold the control (or command) keys and while holding press c, all contacts should highlight (or holding control or command keys click on the contacts you want)
click the gear on the lower left of that page and select export (on a Mac the file goes to my download folder)
*.vcf file it exports to

I tried everything to get this too work but I gave up & spent ages just doing it all manually & sending with Facebook contacts! Total ball ache

Does this move ALL the information like addresses, notes, multiple phone numbers, etc.?

I found syncing the iphone with Outlook via iTunes and then Kies to get the info on Outlook on the Samsung worked good. I did this with the GS2 and it synced it all with Google. The S3 only needed me to sign in and everything worked perfectly. Moved all my calendar and contacts plus purchased software.
