Interesting review of the gs3:

Samsung Galaxy S3 review: reaching for greatness | Technology | guardian.co.uk

It seems like touchwiz interface really does more harm than good, which is frightening. I have an original dinc and really like sense.

I have been flip flopping between the two phones for weeks now.
Not surprising... Samsung's Touchwiz has always been awful and so are all of "custom interfaces" manufactures put on their phones... with an exception of HTC to many people.

I guess I'll hope for the phone to be released in 2 weeks and go for it. I figure being an HTC fan, this should be the only solid HTC phone on Verizon for a while. Hopefully it sells well and grabs a lot of the old incredible, thunderbolt, and rezound users.

Figured Big Red would push the release past the 28th. If true I won't be getting it. With the new plans I'm screwed so won't be going for that. Ain't gonna feed that greed beast. Big Red can piss off. :smokingsomb:

Hi All,

Sorry for the long post - I know this can get overused - but I thought this conversation might help clarify the exchange possibility that has been discussed in this thread previously.

I think the crucial part is the long pause and change of information that comes after I include the words, "absolutely guarantee." After a long pause, the rep came back with new info - perhaps she clarified with a manager or checked a policy manual.

I come to Phandroid often and have been fiendishly checking this thread since I heard word of the Inc 4g. It's funny though - I haven't added a post since I was fiendishly watching this thread two years ago prior to the release of my original Incredible, (which, by the way is working awesome and is so totally functional with the extended battery.)

Here goes:

Please hold for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience.
You are now chatting with 'Shaneka'
Shaneka: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
You: Hi – I currently have the original Incredible and am waiting for the HTC Droid Incredible 4g. Any word on when that handset will be released?
Shaneka: I'll be happy to assist you with your order today.
You: Sweet - I can order the Incredible 4g today!?
Shaneka: I do not have that information available to me; however, we do have the Certified pre-owned Incredible available for 49.99
You: Uhh -like I said, that's what I've got now.
You: Hmm. Let me ask you this - Am I correct that whatever device I purchase, I have a 14-day return period?
Shaneka: Yes that is true. I can help find you another compatible device perfect for your needs that is similar to the incredible.
You: Hold on a sec - And, during that 14-day period, I could also exchange my device for another?
Shaneka: Yes, you would be able to exchange your device as well.
Shaneka: Let's pick you out a device shall we?
You: Whoah – easy now - I've got more questions...
Shaneka: Of course, please ask away!
You: So, my main issue is my grandfathered unlimited data plan, which I want to hang on to as long as I can. I realize that I need to use my subsidized upgrade prior to June 28th, otherwise I lose unlimited - correct?
Shaneka: That is correct! You will continue to have your unlimited data as long as you upgrade before the 28th.
You: Okay - so if I were to use my subsidized upgrade now on say, an HTC Rezound... IF, during my 14-day exchange period, the Incredible 4g was released - would I be able to exchange the Rezound for the Incredible 4g and continue on the contract I signed upon acceptance of the Rezound, and therefore own the Incredible 4g, while hanging on to my unlimited data?
Shaneka: Yes you would be able to do all that and receive free shipping!
You: So, if I buy a Rezound now, and the Incredible 4g is released on July 5th - I get online on the 6th and order an exchange for the Incredible 4g - I'm now owning an Incredible 4g and maintain my unlimited data plan?
Shaneka: Yes. If you buy the Rezound now you can exchange it with the incredible comes out.
You: ... and remain on my unlimited data contract?
Shaneka: Yes, you will be able to keep your unlimited data.
You: Hey - that's exciting! Is that the same policy in the stores or only for online purchases?
Shaneka: Online is cheaper to buy devices because the rebate is instant.
Shaneka: Let's add the phone to your cart shall we?
Shaneka: So you can have the awesome device in your hands.
You: Seriously ease up - I've still got questions… is the in-store exchange policy the same as the situation we discussed above?
Shaneka: yes it is the same in store and online for the exchange policy.
You: Alright - I don't mean to question your knowledge, but I have read a lot of contradictory information about the exchange policy. Are you able to ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEE to me that if the Incredible 4g comes out during my 14-day exchange period, that I would be able to exchange my purchased device for the Incredible 4g and retain my unlimited data plan?
Shaneka: One moment please
You: Okay - thanks..
Shaneka: You can buy the phone and return it. but if you dont return it and exchange before the 28th you would have to exchange your device for the incredible at full retail pricing, just to keep your unlimited data plan.
You: Oh -before the 28th or full retail pricing applies? - so that's a little different from what you had implied earlier - no?
Shaneka: i'm sorry but that might have been some misunderstanding.
You: LET’S REVIEW OUR CONVERSATION: You: So, if I buy a Rezound now, and the Incredible 4g is released on July 5th - I get online on the 6th and order an exchange for the Incredible 4g - I'm now owning an Incredible 4g and maintain my unlimited data plan? Shaneka: Yes. If you buy the Rezound now you can exchange it with the incredible comes out. You: ... and remain on my unlimited data contract? Shaneka: Yes, you will be able to keep your unlimited data.
Shaneka: I am mistaken. You are correct. My apologies. I didnt add the full retail pricing detail into that statement.
Shaneka: Full retail pricing for the Incredible allows you to keep that unlimited data plan.
You: Honestly - you were either mistaken in your statement, or were deliberately implying that the subsidized price would apply. (It goes without saying that I could purchase at full retail.)
Shaneka: My apologies for not stating the full retail pricing for the phone. I truly understand your frustration. I am only trying to effectively assist you with the information you need.
You: And I truly understand your frustration that I'm not going to buy anything from you now - I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you were simply mistaken.
Shaneka: That is fine, I just want to make sure I help you all the way I can. I am putting in all my effort to make sure you receive everything you will be needing today.
Shaneka: May I say that the Rezound and the incredible are actually kind of similar devices.
Shaneka: The Rezound I must say is the better of the two. IF you would give me time, I can tell you all about this phne and why you wouldnt have to exchange the device and you would keep your unlimited plan without any difficulties.
You: Seriously – are you still trying to sell me something?! I have to admit, I was ready to jump on the Rezound based on the exchange policy you had originally described. I'm glad I went through the trouble of using the language "ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEE" otherwise I would have been "ABSOLUTELY SCREWED." Thanks for your time. I'm going to go post this conversation in the Phandroid forum to hopefully prevent some other people from getting jacked.
Shaneka: Thank you for visiting Verizon Wireless, I look forward to speaking with you again. Have a great evening!

Good luck to all of us!

(mod edit for brevity)

Good luck to all of us!

Same type of conversation today at a corporate store for me today. Same results as you. First impression all good. Asked around and got what I believe to be the real deal. Full price or no unlimited after the 28th, exchange not available to receive subsidy.

Do they generally allow you to exchange a phone and get the subsidized pricing on the exchanged phone? If so, why would they change it now?

Well that's disappointing. Then it's time for all of us who preordered S3s to let go and say goodbye? :(

I hadn't thought about it, but to give Verizon the benefit of the doubt here, maybe they've always treated their 14-day exchanges as returns rather than exchanges.

If it weren't for the timing threshold related to the expiration of unlimited plans, a person really wouldn't notice the difference or have reason to care. You would bring back a phone within the 14 days, trade it for another current model at the subsidized price, and feel like you've just completed an "exchange."

However, it's now clear that this transaction is really treated as a return, which puts you back to square one with your subsidy. When you trade in your SGIII or Rezound for the Inc 4g at the subsidized price, you have then just utilized your subsidy after June 28th, which then kills your unlimited plan.

Have you guys called in? I called in, and to my surprise, I only use around 400mb a month... the most I used in the last 12 months was 600.

I have my o dinc, and 4 dumb phones (son's has the lame $10 data), and we all have text, and more min than we need, and I have a work discount, and a random 10 off my data from verizon.

The new plan will save me $8.04 a month. Now that I am adding my wife, it will only cost $10 more to get her a smart phone, even if we add the 2gb to share, it will be cheaper than my old plan and adding her.

My boss who has 4 smart phones and 3 dumb, also will save money (I think it was like $80ish).

Just wanted to make sure fear wasn't taking over here if you havent checked. I am waiting till the new inc 4 comes out. Touchwiz stinks.

+1 here as well. I went in and asked the same type of questions and got the same answer.

You can not exchange it, but you can sell it,and then buy the Inc 4G outright. But you better hope somebody wants to buy that phablet...;)

Preordered the Samsung. Going to use it as a backup in case I brick and/or break my Orig. Inc. Sorry, Incredible 4g...i never got to know the. :(

So basically it sounds like there is no way to get the Dinc 4G subsidized and keep unlimited data since it won't be out by June 28th. I pre-ordered the S3 and still good with my decision since my unlimited data is safe. I even plan to try out S3 before considering the Dinc 4G at this point. If I do decide to trade it in for the Dinc 4G - still would have to pay full retail (minus what I have paid for the S3 + restocking fee). At least this way I get to try to something different. But I would also suggest complaining big time to the CSR's when exchanging saying we were told we could exchange for subsidized (or led to believe) - they might cave...

If you have a family share plan, could you upgrade a non-unlimited line to the Incredible 4G after the 28th (to a tiered data plan)? Some posts/FAQs on these forums suggest that this would not forfeit your unlimited line. After upgrading the phone on that line, you would just switch the line back to the original phone on that line. Then take your new Incredible and swap it with the device you have on your unlimited line... thoughts?

I used to work for VZW. I went into a store and talked to a store manager friend of mine. He was able to confirm the same thing. After the 28th, with exchange, if you want to keep your unlimited you have to pay full retail.
My wife had an INC2 and was the last one in the family not to be on 4G.
Last night I got an email telling me she could get $100 off a 4G phone, so we hit up the store today and picked her up a Rezound.
She really wanted the INC4G because of the screen size. Her INC2 was perfect. The Rez was the only good option that wasn't 4.5" or bigger.
Now we have 2 Rezounds in the family. One rooted running ICS, and one stock.

Was that a specific email for her or were they offering that deal to everyone? My NE2 discount isn't good until the 29th, so I'd love a $100 incentive.

It was specific for her line. It was only good in store or through telesales, not online. Also had some fine print about not being valid for pre-orders of the SGS3. I am pretty sure I got the offer because she was the only one left on my account not on a 4G phone.

I had a similar e-mail sent to me a month or more ago. It was only for Motorola phones though unless I missed some small print saying "or any other 4G phone."

Edit: Or maybe it was a mailer. Either way, mine was only for Motorola phones :)

Rather than just give back your S3 and lose the benefit of the $400 subsidy (not to mention the re-stocking fee), definitely consider doing what a lot of people on this thread are planning on doing and simply sell your S3 on E-Bay. If you leave it in brand-new condition, you should probably get at least $500 for it, which will be a net gain of $300. Then use that $300 toward your full-priced Inc 4.
