FB and email

I don't see what everyone is complaining about with this subject. Yes, it is a little annoying that they hid all the other emails under contact information, but they didn't delete them... all you have to do is go and edit that section and you will see that all other emails are still there.

Facebook is just trying to figure out ways of getting their stocks to rise. Their email system has been set in place since 2010 I believe but they made the decision to make their email default, quite possibly for reasons of people complaining that Facebook sends to many emails about the smallest things. Yes there are settings to receive less emails but not everyone knows about them, and rather than using up time of the support staff to help with a small problem, they could have seen it as a plus for them. Now this isn't necessarily why they did do this but it a possible part of an explanation

The point is that I should not have to go back and change things that I did not want Facebook to change in the first place. Not only that, Facebook did not inform me that they were going to change vital information like my contact information that is shown to people. It's like Facebook giving everyone their own Facebook phone number and then changing the phone number in your contacts to their phone number without telling you.

Facebook is just trying to figure out ways of getting their stocks to rise.

I would say they figured wrong with this move.

This is the first I have heard of regarding complaints about too many emails. I use FriendCaster Pro to handle my notifications and use the email option. I recall a while ago, they changed the way emails are sent and what emails to send. They already have a method in place to deal with any issues of too many emails being sent. I don't see changing what is displayed as your email address is going to solve this issue.

This doesn't make sense. If people are complaining that they are receiving too many emails, changing their email doesn't sound like a good solution to me.

My reasoning was only theory as I mentioned. To me it was no big deal, so I had to take 10 seconds out of my day to change it back.

a possible reasoning for thinking using their email as default would help their stocks is that, also being an email service can increase traffic to their website. With a higher traffic to their website the better their stocks will do. Not many people knew Facebook gave each user their own email until they did this, so while there are people upset with their decision, it also informed many people in hopes to raise traffic to their site.

Again this is just a possibility not saying this is exactly the reasoning why

What makes it a big deal to me is wondering how long has it been like this before I or others found out. It took me a few minutes to find where the setting was and change them. It's not obvious to me where this setting is. It will affect people for a while because many will take some time to realise that this has change.

I can understand your theory about how it may improve their stock value. However, once people find out that Facebook is trying to use this trick to artificially increase their traffic, it may cause the stock price to lower again.

That would be my only concern regarding this matter.
I can always change the setting while I post an update or two.

He/she rightly said..........Get ready for the Spam!

Well, if the spam is going to come and @facebook is now the default email address, that's perfect, it will never bother me and they will just be wasting their own space and bandwidth! Sounds ideal to me!
