I am trying to find a way to use GO SMS Pro on a Samsung Galaxy S WIFI 5.0.

This is basically a media player with WIFI/GPS/BT but no mobile phone.

It is not possible to install GO SMS PRO directly from Google Play store, but I found that I could download the apk file from the manufacture and install this directly and it appeared to install ok.

GO SMS Pro

I am attempting to use the Go Chat feature inside Go SMS Pro.

I have managed to create an account and link it to an email address and skipping the link to phone number as the device doesn't have a number.

The problem i have got to now is linking to other Go Chat users. I can send messages between 2 accounts, but i don't seem to be able to add users as friends. Also GO SMS Pro doesn't appear to be able to read my contacts on the Galaxy and I am not sure why.

Just wondered if other people have managed to get it to work?

SMS Pro is only for phones that have a number, and a cell phone carrier i have the samsung galaxy player 4.0 i had the same problem so the texting won't work sorry

Since posting the message I have a successful setup working on the Samsung Galaxy S WIFI (Media Player) now.

1) Install APK direct from Go SMS Pro website. (You can not install from market place.)
2) Setup a Go Chat account. You have to validate an email address, that works fine. It asks for a phone number, but just skip that part.
3) In order to pair up and send messages to other people you have to find out what their Go Chat ID is. This would be something like c62*****. When you have this you can send a friend request and it will pair the media player with the phone to allow you to send messages.

Limitation is that GO SMS Pro can not access your phone book as that is only enabled once you have authorised your phone number, which you can't do. So manually connecting to friends is a little bit of a pain, but once connected it works well.

Have you tried setting up a Google Voice account with a phone number. It may be an easier work around.

I don't think that would work as the GO SMS App connects directly to the operating system, so I don't think this would work with Google Voice.

Why not just get a prepaid sim and then register it as the number? Put it in phone and wait for the confirmation code, and when the code is requested, enter the code that was sent to the number specified. The downside is having to re register the app everytime you shut the phone down

I thought I could do something like that, so used a number of an spare PAYG sim card I have hoping it would receive a SMS with a code which I could enter into the app, but it doesn't appear to work like that.

Unfortunately in the Go SMS Pro App there is no way to enter a validation code, the application handles the validation automatically.

I suspect it is part of the security features to stop people trying to register other mobile numbers.
