Will the S3 have the same reception issues as the GNex?

The "radio" in cell phones is both hardware and software, this is why different carriers and even software versions can have completely different reception than others.
 
If I was a patient person I would wait until 2 weeks after the launch of the S3 then if signal issues are really bad everyone will be talking about going back to their OG droid.

unfortunately I'm super impatient (my wife's words) and I'll be one of those guys going back to the ole standby phone in my junk drawer.
 
I've researched this topic quite a bit. Most of the posts related to this S3 radio are those talking about bars and not an actual experience with dropped calls. There are too few posts otherwise to make any assumptions yet.

If the S3 on Verizon has an issue with the radio, mine will go back within a week too.
 
My previous experience with Samsung and Verizon is keeping me away from this phone. I never had any trouble on a GSM carrier with a Samsung phone, they were always very solid. I'm not sure what it is, but their CDMA models just don't do as well. Their LTE models have been even worse.

The only time I've seen serious improvement was when the Fascinate was updated to Gingerbread. The signal quality (I'm talking dBM here) jumped drastically after that update. Unfortunately it took over a year for that update to be released for that phone.
 
I have Sprints version and haven't had any issues with reception, calls, texts, etc. There is no weird antenna fluctuation like I got on my Epic Touch, and it works in the basement of Chevron where my old phone hadn't worked before.

Good to know. I think many are just basing it off the nexus which uses very different hardware. Samsung seemed to use the left overs and save the good stuff for their galacy lineand thats why nexus underperformed. I never had any issues with my fascinate.
 
Exactly my point, but everyone *is* talking about bars when comparing signal strength which is totally lame.

My post lists specific dBm levels, albeit for another Samsung device, but at least the same generation/connection technology.
 
I think the thread here has more a root issue.

Why do 99% or worse total reviews overlook the most core function: signal reception?

Where are comparisons of the SG3 with other key phones, including both Android and Apple? Compare dbm, stability of signal, wifi range, etc.

IMO, such information should be standard. I appreciate the subjective nature, but you can still define margins of difference between devices.
 
When Sprint first launched Evo LTE a few months ago, I saw ton of complaints on the signal strength and data issues on several forums. I know it's not all of them, but still a lot don't seem to realize that ICS reads signal strength dbm differently and just compare it to old Evo 4G or others and freak out on the low dbm.

Considering that both Evo LTE and GS3 on Sprint use the same S4 krait chip with ICS, this is to be expected for those coming from Froyo/GB phones IMO. I think it has a lot to do with Sprint network issues too.
 
Since the firmware update that Sprint just released over the weekend (just in time for the power outages...), I've noticed improved signal strength. I no longer roam at work (I currently have 3-4 bars where I used to have 0-1 bars or be roaming on VZW). So, to that point, I'm very impressed with the speed in which Samsung/Sprint have worked to resolve this signal issue. They didn't fix the cell standby miscalculation error, though.

at least they fixed one of the issues rather quick. I think reception is a little more important than the cell standby but hopefully they can also get that fixed quickly.
