Help Small text size in some apps.

Dear all,

After downloading and installing several apps on my Galaxy Ace 2.3.6, I have noticed that a few render text that is far too small to use. A couple of examples are BBC News and Google Currents.

Both mentioned apps have settings to increase text size, but even the largest is far too small to read comfortably. Both look fine in the menus, but the problem occurs when articles open. In fact, Google Currents displays articles so small it is literally impossible to make anything out.

Any ideas?

spare parts has the option to increase-decrease font size. you could also try a different ... thicker /larger font :P

Thanks.

Spare Parts increases menu text size, but the text within the articles remains unchanged...

I feel downloading new fonts would result in the same problem.

Has anyone else tried the BBC News, Google Currents, or Flipboard app?

I am using the Flipboard app, the font size is quite readable and i have not changed it to large size, its still on the default value.
The font issue is with you only mate.

Hmm. Actually, Flipboard is not bad once I get into articles. The main page displays text badly, however. My biggest gripe is with BBC News and Google Currents.

Thanks for your input.

The main pages are also quite okay, although not long time readable but they are pretty fine for previews.
The articles infact seemed a bit too large to me, they could have squeezed more info in one page if they decrease the font there slighly :p:p

Try reinstalling the apps or maybe a factory reset, might be some settings issue that the reset would clear out.

I too use google currents a times and this is a reader app designed for bigger screens and to read you have to open in in browser on ace so that you can zoom it to a readable size.. don't know why google didn't include pinch to zoom in currents itself..

Rather than start a new thread for basically the same problem, I though it best to ask here. On my previous phone, Samsung Preston, reading some forums was impossible as the text was too small, some forums were in a format that was phone friendly. Now I have the Galaxy Ace, it seems all forums are not readable unless you expand the page, then you have to scroll across and down just to read it. I thought by now they would have been able to display pages in a more useable way. Is this a reflection of the quality (or lack thereof) of the phone, or am I doing something wrong? This is my first android phone.

Just imagine that this phone screen is a shrunken computer screen, now how can you read each and every thing on it when all is shrunken so small, its obvious that you'll have to zoom a bit, these pages are designed for computer screens not phones.

I thought that the android system would format the pages to suit the phone, if needed, cut the page into 2 or 3 pages.

Its up to the web page designers to first target they audience whether it will be for pc or for phones or even both and the develop the page accordingly.. if the page doesn't support mobile mode then you cant do any thing about it.. only option is to zoom in to read.. but if it supports mobile mode then make sure you are not opening it in pc mode in your phone..

Interesting, but the Samsung SGH A701 I had a few years ago opened a forum I use in a readable format. When I got the Preston, I was annoyed that it did not open it in a readable way. it was then that I found viewing through google would format it in a phone friendly way, though that meant I could not log into the site. When I got the Galaxy Ace, I was hoping that this would be one of the things corrected by the Android system, not so.

I guess this is a normal behavior for android you can try using different browsers if you want.. but as to what i know Ace does a good rendering of text when you do a pinch to zoom compared to other Samsung budget phones on which the text appears pixelated when when you zoom in.

Further up in the thread, there is a mention of using flipboard to read text, what is it and how do you use it? Sorry, but I am a complete newb with all this.

Same problem on my wifes gt-s5830i but everything works fine on my gt-s5830 phone. It must be a 'i' problem. Are you on Vodafone UK?
