The google voice will not work with the voice app recognition built into the phone for some reason - you have to change it to Samsung Vlingo for those voice commands to work -
I thought there was something wrong with my brand new phone as i was screaming at it to take my picture and nothing was happening until i changed it (both by enabling voice apps and changing google voice to samsung vlingo) - than say cheese and wah-lah!
Not true - it's working fine for me. I am using the Google voice recognition as I think it's better.
Oh, and here's my little list of super cool stuff not mentioned, not all GS3 specific:
1 )real-time voice recognition when texting. This is AWESOME and Google's implementation works really well. This is faster than Swyping for me.
2) The stock quotes and news live wallpapers. I don't know if you'd want to leave this on, but for showing off, this looks REALLY good. Try it out.
3) Voice-activated camera. This is great. I like being able to hold the camera steady, and if you want to take a picture of yourself and someone else, and use the higher res cam, this is terrific.
4) S-Voice can actually answer factual questions from Wolfram Alpha, and it's useful for setting alarms and timers. However, if you want to use Google's Voice Actions, that works great too.
5) Coming from a Droid X, it was embarrassing to me that when I had Google Music or many other music apps playing, pulling the headphone plug out didn't immediately stop the music, sometimes for a good 30 seconds. NO MORE! OMG THANK YOU FOR NOT EMBARRASSING ME IN FRONT OF MY iPHONE TOTING FRIENDS.
6) Notification sounds don't go off when you have the screen on. I bet you guys haven't even noticed this. Nice touch.
7) Sound quality is VERY, VERY good. I am a musician and have a mid-fi amp and $1500 speakers, so I know what "good" is supposed to sound like, and the included ear buds and sound is quite good, on par with the iPhone now. My Droid X's sound, in comparison, was dreadful. What I really need to do is A/B it with a good headphone DAC...
I do really like the Samsung calendar widgets too...Unfortunately, I like Apex's launcher better and they don't show up at all when in Apex.
I also really miss long pressing search for voice actions....This is how I navigated everywhere with Google Nav. Now I have to push two buttons, and I don't think there's a way to make a shortcut straight to voice actions like the old Froyo Voice Search button.
