Help Galaxy S3. HELP!!!

SG3

Lurker
I need to get a new phone by the end of this week. I ordered an unlocked Galaxy S3 from Amazon but I've been told later that internet wouldn't work on it without contract so I returned it. Is there really no way to get 3G or 4G intenet on Galaxy S3 without a contract? Please help

Yeah, you can do that as "Pay as you go", if you don't want to go for a contract. If you are from the UK, for example 3UK offers "addons" you can buy with your credit to get a certain amount of data. Have a look on what offers you carrier and decide.

Thanks everyone for answers.
I'm in US though. I live in NJ right across the river from Manhattan. Does anyone have Galaxy 3 without a contract in US? Is internet very slow that way?
Thank you

Veronika

Assuming I understand what you're asking, can't you just walk into a Verizon, ATT, etc. store and buy a S3 at full retail (~$600)? This way you would not be "locked in" to a 2 year contract, it would be month-to-month and you could terminate at any time. Technically, you have a "contract" (you get cell service, internet, SMS, etc. for X dollars and you agree to pay your bill). You just don't have a long term commitment. Then again, I may have missed that mark on your question.

You can use the the internet at free Wi-Fi spots - for free? I'm in the UK and I know we are more advanced here* and I think all McDondalds, Costa Coffee etc have free Wi-Fi. If you get the WeFi Pro or WiFi Tracker apps they'll find your nearest Wi-Fi spot.

*only joking!

Correct you will not have a long term contract (at least with Verizon). I purchased an iPhone full retail and used it month to month. No problem with getting data too.

bassett, yes you got me right. sorry if i'm not always clear of what I ask, its not my first language. also i've lost phones in the past so it would be very stressful for me to have a contract. I go to europe a lot so would be nice to have an unlocked phone for that reason too. I need to have constant interner access for work. using Wi Fi in starbucks ect is not possible while working. Maybe there is someone from US who got SGS3 unlocked? please share some info

No it is very fast. I am getting 14 to 18 Mb's down on 4G. The S3 is 4G. Maybe I am not understanding I guess. You can get 4G month by month without a contract if you buy the phone retail (on Verizon).

shotinthenads, can't thank you enough for giving me hope! do you have iphone right now or SGS3 ? ok,so i go to Verizon store and ask to buy a phone for full retail price. then what SIM card do I get? which one do you have?

I have both. The iPhone is not 4G yet on Verizon. If you buy the phone at full retail at the Verizon store they will install the sim and set it up for you if you want. Then you will be in a contract so to speak but it is a month to month contract that specifies the do and dont's and the legal speak. It just specifies what they agree to provide you with service. More dishonest non Verizon retail stores may try to get you to sign a 2 year contract-just keep an eye out. You can end the contract at any time you want. You can also buy the phone on wirefly or maybe Amazon.

Another option is to buy the international version off contract. Aaron from Phonedog.com was using the international version on I think AT&T. He wasn't quite getting 4G speeds, but he was getting quite acceptable data speeds on HSPA+ (I think that's the acronym).

With the international version it would be easier for you to travel to Europe with it. If you go with any American phone service, it'll get very pricey to use internationally. I've heard of people swapping their SIM cards when they leave the US for a SIM card from a cell carrier in the country they're going to, but I know at least the Sprint version of the S3 has an internal SIM card that isn't swappable. Verizon may or may not be the same.

With the international version I think you would avoid most of those hassles.
