Anyone know anything about dreams?

I keep having a recurring one. It recurs every couple of months and I had it again last night. In my dream I meet a woman. It's never anyone I know and I never see her face in my dream. We connect on a deep emotional level and spend hours and hours just talking and laughing. There's no sexual component to the dream and we don't even kiss or touch. It's just talking or laughing. She is absolutely gorgeous even though I don't ever see her. (I love how dreams work.) Then I wake up. Any ideas what this dream is about? Or is it completely meaningless?

Didn't feel like a tease. In the dream I was thrilled to just be in the company of the lovely lady. Very weird.

One thing about dreams, you never really get to see anyone's face if you do its just a blur, but some of the other features of the person can help you figure out who it is supposed to be.
I don't know much about meanings of dreams, but I do like to study lucid dreaming, which is where you can control the out come of your dreams by realizing you are dreaming while asleep. Its not easy, but once you get it you can have fun doing things you've always wanted to do. There are no limits to what the human mind can dream of. If you can think about it, you can dream it.

I have looked up some info about dreams in the past and remember reading about recurring dreams. I believe I read that it is something that is on your mind enough that it will come to mind while asleep. Some things that you encounter in dreams are actually from memory, if its a routine thing that you do everyday and it gets stuck in your mind, you can reenact it in your dreams.

1 step to lucid dreaming is identifying reoccurring things such as your dream but that is not what you're asking about haha hope I was of some help

I think you have that dream maybe because you are lacking that person in your life, maybe it's your subconscious telling you that you need someone that you have that connection with. If you already have it with someone maybe it's your dream reminding you how good it feels to have that??

I think we sometimes put to much emphasis on a dream and therefore it stays with us. I think our brain just latches on to the thought of the dream sometimes and there it replays it like a movie we have seen a dozen times. Trying to find the meaning of a dream is sorta like trying to find other life. Not that it can't become a reality someday but at the moment we lack to much from our stand.

I actually know someone who has formal training in interpreting dreams, and have been told by this expert that every character in your dream is some part of you. So this gorgeous woman who you connect with emotionally (but not sexually) with is probably your feminine side.

Perhaps the dream is your unconscious mind telling you to get in touch with your feminine side. Because this is a beautiful woman, there may be some component of self-image. Remember that that woman is you, so it could mean that you'd be exposing some heretofore hidden inner beauty or feeling of self-worth by exploring your feminine side.

Or it could mean that you want to have sex with a beautiful woman, but lack the guts to make a pass at her.

I use to have this reoccurring dream nightmare where some unknown person broke into my house and shot me in the head. It was quite disturbing. This was back in my IRC days where I was close with a few MicMac Indian ladies. I shared this dream with one of them, who just happened to be a dream interpreter. She knew right away what was wrong and told me that I was scared of the neighborhood I lived in (which made sense, since I had to check 20 times before bed to make sure the front door and windows were all locked.. and sometimes Id make my kids check behind me and then my roommate after them... can we say OCD?). Once I knew what I needed to face and deal with the nightmare stopped. I still checked the locks every night, but have since moved out of that scary place. Haven't checked the doors once since I got here hehe.

There's a great many books about dreams. I highly recommend you take a trip one weekend to your local book store and peruse through some of them. You might find some answers.

Seriously though, the "every character is you" rule does have exceptions. The dream could be about your relationship with women (or lack thereof). Only you know for sure, though. Don't let any of us lead you to a conclusion that doesn't feel right.

During my lifetime a lot of things that were considered to be truly random have turned out to be elaborately organized, and in the scientific world true randomness is all but impossible. So I doubt apophenia as a rule. The human mind is organized, save abnormal events like seizures.

I am a strong believer in the conscious and unconscious mind, and have a lot of life experience that supports that belief. I see the unconscious mind as something like the hard drive on a PC. It's meant for long-term storage, while RAM (and the conscious mind) is meant for short-term storage. Although we can't access out unconscious at will with 100% success like a computer can, I see a similar mechanism. I see things like intuition as the unconscious communicating to the conscious. People who have a hunch that proves true are simply seeing connections that their conscious mind is slow in catching up to because they're too complex to put it all in "RAM".

Carl Jung is the one who came up with the concept of dreams being all about yourself, BTW. (I asked my expert.) Some people dismiss dreams as being nothing but noise and claim that the reason why we experience them as somewhat real events is the conscious mind "trying to make sense out of" what they claim is random. To me that appears to support "dreams are not random" more than "dreams are random"! I haven't seen any scientific evidence that proves that the brain is "full of static" during sleep. On the contrary the phases of sleep are quite organized.

When it comes to dreams, the real question IMO is whether the detailed memories of dreams contain a deliberate meaning (our subconscious trying to tell us something) or is just dumping unnecessary thoughts.

I went through various stages of my life where I totally believed in dreams as a premonition, to not caring at all.
Usually for me a dream is just a dream, not even a reflection of what I want or wish for when I am awake.

Had the same dream again last night but slightly different. This time I saw the woman. She was slim, petite, thin face, dark hair and absolutely gorgeous. I can say I've never met or even seen this woman before. We talked for hours and hit it off famously. At the end of the dream we were going into some kind of formal deal. One of those things where the guy wears an uncomfortable tux and the girl wears a dress that makes her look look like a million bucks. As we were walking through the door I woke up.

Dreams are interesting things, but I don't think they posses any significant information if taken literally. I think they are random experiences passed through an emotional filter.

Consider that the dreams we have that we remember occur during REM sleep where the brain is pretty much rebooting itself. I do agree somewhat that the brain is a bit like digital memory. During our periods of waking consciousness, we gather data though our senses and store as interpret them through our currently running operating system (I am running Lunatic v2012.7-18 ) and keep them in active memory. As the mind enters REM sleep the brain decides what to save in permanent storage and dump as unnecessary. The brain's operation at the time is influenced by the emotional state electrochemically induced by the circumstances of the person. As the daily data is dumped, it's filtered through this emotional state and images are put together in some seemingly congruent manner.

A.non ... let's look at your dream. I would ask how you felt in the dream as much more telling than the details. You mentioned that you "lack the guts" to make a pass at a woman. So, if you feel comfortable with this strange woman in the beginning, it is your desire to eliminate that awkward moment of first interaction and the fear of rejection that goes along with it. In your dream, it seems to be a given that you will be totally at ease with each other without the fearful component.

Later you talk about a situation where "the guy wears an uncomfortable tux and the girl wears a dress that makes her look look like a million bucks." Why is the guy uncomfortable and the girl is gorgeous? Female formal attire is much more uncomfortable that a well-fitted suit, and why are they dressed up in the first place? It looks like you are putting yourself in a place where you feel out of place and uncomfortable, but the woman not only belongs there, but it is regardless of whether you are there or not. I would say your dream is desire creates hope and runs into a wall of insecurity.

Of course, I'm just making massive assumptions based on a short description of one small piece of your particular puzzle. We are all complex and unique individuals with our own set of neuroses.

From my perspective, I am never more uncomfortable than when I am wearing a tux. Less so when I'm wearing a suit/tie. I feel ill at ease and like I'm wearing a costume and am expected to behave like someone other than myself. Not sure if that makes any sense at all. It also implies a social situation of some sort which I also tend to be ill at ease in.

Not having ever worn a woman's formal attire I can't say how comfortable it is, but to me nothing looks hotter than an attractive woman in a formal dress. I have no idea why we were dressed up. Everyone else going into whatever event we were going to was similarly attired so we were not out of place and the woman appeared to be completely in her element while I was not, but was put at ease by being with her. Not sure if that makes sense.

Makes perfect sense. In your dream, why are you going into an uncomfortable situation dressed uncomfortably? Why can't you be yourself when dressed differently than your normal day-to-day attire? The reality of women's attire, doesn't really matter, it's what you believe it to be. Like I said earlier, I don't think the details have much bearing. That's what was in your head for some reason (Did you watch Dancin' with the Stars that night?). It's how you feel about it that matters. You could have easily been in a wetsuit at a wedding, or walking into a business meeting with no shoes.
