How to turn off annoying alerts

So my One V (Virgin Mobile) has been getting severe weather alerts, and they are annoying as hell. It basically makes a loud noise, vibrates, and takes up the whole screen telling me about some flood alert or something. I want to disable this.

I am wondering if this is a Sprint thing, as a woman at work with a different Sprint phone gets the same thing, and VM uses their network.

Anyone know how to fix this, or if it's even possible to disable it?

You go to the messaging app and go to settings. There will be an emergency alerts section. Click it and uncheck all the ones you don't want to alert you.

I had alerts turned off on Weatherbug, but this afternoon a tornado siren went off in my pocket and scared the heck out of me! I didn't know my new DINC 4G had alerts built into the messaging. Thanks Again! -DP
