Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Looking at Sprint's phone lineup right now, its horrible. Aside from the Palm Pre(Which I have) the Samsung Moment and the Hero....there isnt a phone on there that I would consider buying.

Well those were excellent phones last year. Now they are setting up for their refresh with Nexus One, Evo, and perhaps Legend. Carriers don't constantly put out flagship devices because it's counterproductive. The reason I predict an early June release is that is when they released their last flagship (Pre) and those early adopters will be ready to upgrade.

Hopefully "Summer" doesn't literally mean summer since it doesn't start until June 21st. I'd love a late May/Early June release. My two lines will be eligible for upgrade on June 6th, one year after the Pre launch.

It just always seems like when Im ready for a new phone, Sprint has nothing to offer...and im always waiting months for their new "flagship".

But suffice it to say, the EVO is shaping up to be well worth the wait....I originally was sold on a Nexus...but after looking at the EVO, and being in a 4G market, the EVO is a no-brainer

Very very disappointing. I consider the ball dropped. In three months we will probably be seeing 1.5 Ghz phones with similar specs. Apple will prob drop a 1.5 into the next iPhone.

okay so this is the first time i m posting to a forum this 1 has been so exciting i love the fact that we have a good phone on the sprint network i should say great phone i want this phone so bad this is what i have been waiting for. i have been waiting for sprint actually support great hardware.i have been with sprint for 11 years waiting on this moment this will be the first time that i buy a a phone out right all i have to say is go sprint

It may be out June 6th though as rumored, so 1.5 months or so. The person I saw who rumored June 6th leaked the info weeks ago and had all the specs correct including the Evo name.

I dont think so....there isnt much word on any 1.5 phones yet, or atleast ones ready to be rolled out. Infact most searches for 1.5 comes up with the Scorpion, another HTC phone w/ Wimax...which more than likely is for Sprint again.

And Apple is too worried about the iPad, I cant see them directing focus away from that to redo the Iphone for a 1.5 Ghz, specially when they are more worried about OS 4.0....which adds what, the possibility of multi-tasking?? Or universal email?

Even if this phone doesnt come out til June(Which I hope it will be sooner) I truly think HTC and Sprint are ahead of the curve on this one.

In the scheme of things, that really isn't that far away. Sure, we all want the phone right now!! That's human nature. Hopefully the phone will be released earlier than the end of June and I say chances are pretty good that it will.

I just watched Dan Hesse and Bill Marrow interviews, which I thought were excellent. The way it stands right now, anyone arguing that LTE is better than WiMAX has a weak argument since Sprint is the only US carrier to offer 4G. My guess is that LTE has a rough road ahead trying to get ahead of WiMAX, but it was nice to hear Hesse say Sprint is willing to adapt or converge technology with the other carriers for the sake making 4G compatible worldwide.

Dropped the ball? This phone has better specs(not to mention additional features) than every single phone released this year or last year and you're already considering it outdated?

Not sure the 1.5 Ghz chips will be an issue but I do agree that the ball has been dropped. What ever happened to striking while the iron is hot. Sprint has been "leaking tidbits" for months to make everybody drool and now we are being told to wait another couple months. Don't they think that some, if not most, people will have "moved on" by then. I am going to have a hard time sticking with this AWSOME phone until it drops. I have been off contract since January and waiting for this. Sorry to say that my BB8330 is just not cutting it. Never wanted the IPhone as it just seems to be just a "cool toy" to me. May have to go N1 insread. Sprint, I feel let down by your untimely release.

Don't you think we should wait for confirmation on the release date before we get down on Sprint?

Sorry, I'm not "down" on Sprint. They are by far, imo, the best. Just REALLY BUMMED that this phone isn't going to drop til like June. Just sayin

maybe 4th quarter

definitely not in 3 months

I have read that is when Qualcomm is going to put out a 1.5 chip (mostly speculation of course). But I believe Samsung and Apple make their own mobile processors as well. They might not be ready in three months but I bet they are at least officially announced. I guess I'm still extremely frustrated/disappointed by the lack of price and date

I am estatic to hear that the plans for 4G will not cost extra. What about being able to use the EVO as a "hotspot" for up to 8 other devices. Do you think that will be included or will it be an option with an associated extra cost?

Bill, Think Palm Pre. They announced and it was indeed months before it was released. There was not an offcial date announced until about 3 weeks before launch. If they continue the trend we will probably not get a solid release date until what, June 1. How long should we wait this time?

I strongly believe that if they had capitalized on some of the Palm hype at CES that year and released quickly there would be double the amount of Pres in the wild today.

In all likelihood I will still be buying this phone the day its available. But three months in this fast paced business is an eternity.

Also thanks Bill for taking the torch up for the Evo, this thread is great.

I don't understand how all of these people can get down on a phone like this when we just had an unveiling yesterday? At least let us get some more details about release and price before you go and rip it. I don't care if it take til july or later, I know I am going to buy this phone. Sprint is trying to give us what we want and people still aren't happy.

lol I saw this elsewhere and had to post it. lol

(Sorry, my evil side is taking over today)

TS out (getting flowers for the funeral)

Hahahaha that was awesome!! Imagine rocking a t-shirt like this.

In my situation, I would be glad if this comes out in early June. It will give me enough time to save up. Plus my birthday is on that month lol. I just hope when they said ''summer'' they didn't mean deep in the summer.

I know the Evo is great and everything and I can't wait to get it but was this the worst CTIA show you have ever seen or what. One major phone and that's pretty much it.

lol couldn't agree more, this is the EXACT phone we have been waiting for guys, not a single spec is off and it won't even cost extra... why are we all complaining, cause it may take a realisitc amount of time to finalize and produce and sell this bad boy? it'll STILL be ahead of it's time in 3 months, even a year from now, don't worry about that

You're wrong in 3 months everyone will be talking about the new iphone and it doesn't matter about the specs of it. People buy more into the name then perfomance.

I'm a little shocked that anyone could have a negative feeling about this device, or feel let down, or disappointed or whatever else. It's the best mobile phone ever created specs wise, and there won't be another equaling or besting it for a long time after it goes on sale, especially if the 4g aspect is taken into consideration. People are saying they can't wait for this and they'll get the N1 instead, well guess what, there's no availability date for that on sprint either, so why is it so hard to stick with what you're using now until the phones are made available for sale? Are people that impatient that they're actually emotionally distraught because they have to wait a month and a half to get a new device? Just keep using what you have now until it's available, and be happy that it's on the way!

Also, why are people concerned about how many OTHER people will get this phone and how popular it will be? I couldn't care less how popular the Supersonic is, as long as I'm using it and benefiting from its tech advances it makes no difference to me if it has a huge following or not, or whether it's recognizable to people like the iphone is. In fact I would probably be embarrassed if I was one of the hundreds of millions of sheep-like consumers feeding apple's greedy bank account. I don't want to be using the same device as millions of preteen girls twittering with their pink phone cases, and immature boys showing off their fart apps!

But everybody remember that Sprint said first half of 010 for 2.1 but came back out and said early 2Q. maybe they are under promising and over delivering.;)

4G, multi-tasking, front facing camera, 720p recording, 8MP camera, 7 home screens? I don't think so, but on the other hand this is the EVO forum which I would much rather talk about. :)

Edit: My feelings are that too many phones have been compared to the Apple and the media has over used the "iPhone killer" term so much that I'm totally sick of it. That's just the media's way of thumbing their noses at us and everyone else that wants to compete.

It's no secret that Mac's dominate publishing companies and most of the editors have the iPhone. Can you blame them for sticking up for their baby?

Things are different with the EVO - it has it's own merits and doesn't need to be compared to any other phone on the market. Sprint has the only 4G and that speaks volumes. To me, everyone else that's interested in good phones will be very jealous of you in the near future, so lets enjoy it!

I understand what your saying. They haven't put a name on it like droid or iphone. I think if sprint does the marketing for this phone like they have been for 4G aircards then Sprint will be selling a lot more phones then you think. People might want a name, but that is Sprints job now is to establish this phone before or right after it comes out. Put the dollars behind your best horse.
