Help Issue with SD card after ICS update

When I plug my phone into my computer as I used to do to transfer files, my computer crashes and restarts. This used to work on Gingerbread and my previous Moto Droid, any ideas for what is going on?

Are you using motoactiv to transfer the files?

I upgraded my SD card to a Sandisk 32gb card today. The phone ran file all day. Then I dropped 4 mp3 albums on to the card tonight and I've had nothing but problems. I can't even get my phone boot long enough to delete the albums to see if they will help. At one point it did tell me that the SD card was empty now. Even though I know it's not. So, either I get a bad card, or ICS doesn't like having new cards put in.

This is a long shot....but I have experienced this in the past on a different Android phone... If you have set any custom ring tones, Un-mount the SD card, then set them all back to a standard (default) ringtone, then mount the SD card, then set up your custom ring tones again.

Not sure that will help since like I said, the phone has worked fine for almost 12 hrs including ringing and notifications. It screwed up as soon as I plugged the phone into the computer and put the mp3s on there. Now my screen was come on correctly (I press the power button and the home key row lights up but the screen itself doesn't come on), the SD card says it's empty even though I copied everything from the old SD card onto it this morning.

Well, I just pulled the SD card from the phone. It will boot up now. And when I put the SD card in to the adapter directly in to my computer it works fine. Windows sees it as a storage device and sees all the files on it. So, I deleted the "Music" folder that I put the mp3s in, put the SD card back in the phone. And now it works like it should. So the phone must just really not like mp3s because it sees all the other files that were originally on the SD card.

Edit: spoke too soon. Looks like the phone is running really sluggish and getting hung up on simple things like pulling down the notification bar.

I got it from Meritline so I would hope they didn't sell me a knockoff. I guess it's possible though. But now that the music has been removed, the phone works like it did before. The sluggishness is gone too. So, I'm guessing there is something wrong with the music files. Although my iPod has no trouble playing them....

Backup the card contents onto your PC. Put the card in the phone and using the settings/storage menu format the card. Restore the backup and see how it works.

Well, the phone was working fine all day. I tried to load the camera and it glitched all to hell again. I finally got it to boot up enough to get in to the Setting/Storage and told it to format and now it's locked up the phone again. Press the power button to turn on the screen and nothing happens. I'm thinking this SD card is going back.

edit: I finally got the SD card formatted. So far so good. We'll see how it goes for a few days.

Make sure that you do not go over the return window, the card might be faulty and will lock the phone up every time it tries to use the card.

I read on another forum of someone having trouble with their SD card.
Their fix was to remove the SD card and use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts. After that, their problem was fixed.
Don't know if this will help, but it can't hurt to try.

Well, didn't even make it until lunch today before the phone locked up. The card is going back. I would try the pencil eraser trick but, well, I don't feel like I should have to do something like that on the hopes it will work. The card should just work. I guess Sandisk isn't as good as I thought it was, or at least they probably made a bad batch of cards.

Sounds to me like the problem is with the phone. Wipe the cache partition then do a full factory reset. Put the 32gig sd card in computer format it. When phone boots up, put sd card in and let it format it again. The problem is.. you probly had old gingerbread files transfered to the new chip that are conflicting with ics. Not all apps work with ics that did with gingerbread. Which will cause the phone to lock up. I have done this procedure with a few other razr maxx's and they are runnin smooth. Do not put the old backup files back on the chip. Only pics/vids/sounds, etc... try it. Im betting it will work.

I'm not sure how wiping the cache would help on a brand new formatted SD card. Basically is comes down to this:

Installed ICS and did a factory reset.
16gb original card works perfectly fine.
Installed 32gb card and moved my files to it from my 16gb card.
Nothing but trouble with the 32 gb card.
Formatted the 32 gb card so it was a blank slate.
Turn on my camera, set it save pictures to the SD card and it locked up the phone.
Still nothing but problems with the 32 gb card.
Put the 16gb card back in. Everything works perfectly as it should.

Nope. I ave been using mine with no problems at all. Just set it to mass storage and it is done. No software needed.

My entire computer still resets whenever I try it. Running Windows XP, any compatibility issues? I guess I have to break down and buy a separate SD card reader.

I got a new SD card from Amazon. This one works like a charm. I guess the other one was defective after all.
