oh ok, so they announced it because they have no faith..

Doesn't have anything to do with faith or emotion. It's rather a preemptive strategy. They have to be aggressive. Look at their pricing strategy and now the EVO announcement. As Red Leader said, they do in fact need customers - and before those potential customers get locked in for a couple of years with the iPhone 4G on AT&T or one of their Android devices, or on VZW with its upcoming lineup.

Because Sprint isn't run by a bunch of tight a$$ douchebags who think that their $hit doesn't stink. Verizon actually thinks those stupid commercials about their coverage map is going to steal customers (iPhone users) from AT&T.

Geuess what a**holes. It's going to be a great device + your network (mainly device IMO) that gets you new customers. It's going to be your current attitude and smugness that will get you to lose them.
I have to politely disagree. While those of us here want a killer device, most people on all networks want to be able to make reliable CALLS (it is a phone after all). I will concede that in the near future the superiority of the device will become more important, but as it is now people care more about great coverage and the all important bars.

There, now that's out of the way, I just got a call from my VZW buddy. He told me that the HTC rep is expected in his store within an hour and he recommeded that I come in as soon as I can and "act like a customer." He told me that's probably my best way to find out any info - to hang as close as I could to the conversation that he'd be having with the rep. So I'm off; not exactly sure when I'll report back - wish me luck!! :)

Good Luck (psst, I would take some pics this time too ;) )

You mean it's line up of crap, teeny bopper and phantom phones?

First, of all in regards to obi - **** off and die a slow, painful death.

click, click...

MontanaM: "Nope, just looking at the phones, thanks."

click, click...

VZ Rep: "Ok"

I'd recommend you don't look; but we all know you will.

Well they sure need the customers. Releasing a hot new device like the EVO will get new customers in droves. Hot phones get customers, a good network keeps them.

Sure they look good today, but a lot can happen between now and June/July... whenever it is that they actually roll that phone out.

And I'm not just talking verizon, who we believe will have new Moto phones and others on the way by then, but At&T won't be sitting around between now and then either.

Also, this is sprint's one window of opportunity before verizon rolls out the LTE network, which will leave Wimax in the dust, so they better do all they can to get a few contracts before they go bottoms up.

The best advantage to Skype is the Skype to Skype calling. You can call another Skype user no matter what device they're using. It's added flexibility to making just a regular call.

So what that it doesn't work via WiFi? Use Fring when you don't have 3G. As I said, this is just the first step towards true VoIP on VZW.
Sorry if I missed this already... but can you at least do skype to skype calls over wifi, or does any skype "calling" require the phone network?

I figured the best reason for using skype (for me anyway) was to be able to call people while overseas just using wifi, since the Incredible isn't a world phone. :(

us xv6900 users can attest to VZW firmware nerfing features, right guys? gps ring any bells?

no kidding that was ridiculous. i thought i was one of the only people still using the xv6900. if it wasn't for the android roms i probably would have taken a hammer to this beast months ago. come on incredible!

Yes, all Skype calls go via 3G.

I doubt any amount of Twitter traffic will change VZW minds on their release date. They have a date, and they have a plan and they are going to execute it.

Well, that's 2 things more than we have. And if I was putting me on it, I'm starting to think they don't have either of those either.

anyone else almost say YES when they read the first page of endgadget only to read further into it and say ahh SH**T i saw that page load and read the first line ..

Everyone, stop what you're doing. The day you've been patiently waiting for has finally come.

and then

That's right, the Engadget app is now available for the Android platform

crap!!!

Sadly, I'm thinking it's the Devour.

Is anyone else wondering if they took Anonimac to the Verizon equivalent of Guantanamo Bay for knowing too much or asking too many questions?

Either that or Tyson's tiger got to him.

I was in Costa Rica for two weeks over xmas with no cell coverage whatsoever. I had a business emergency that needed big time fixing immediately.

And you what allowed me to fix it? A buddy's iphone with skype over wifi.

If ATT/Apple can do it, why can't VZW/HTC?

No, don't forget...the box was sent from HTC. So, it can't be a Motorola device.

Good point. Thanks! I just got off the phone with Verizon tech support and asked if any new phones were coming out and she said The Devour. Guess I didn't put two and two together. Thanks for the clarity.

you're the exact demographic Sprint is banking on.

I'm not going anywhere! I have no other carriers in my area, except Verizon. I figure, just because Verizon is spooning me scrap doesn't me I have to smile, like it and ask for more, please. That EVO is useless to me, as is the iphone, or any other non-Verizon phone!
