UK firmware on a us 7510??

I just installed the UK ICS on my US tab using a guide I found, seems to be working fine so far.

Was nervous as hell installing it though, but so far so good.

Sorry if this is a noob question, but am I downloading and extracting the update and Odin to my PC or to my tablet? The directions a vague in that regard. I have only ever done official ota updates, none of which required a PC.

Does everything work including the camera? The camera not working is only thing preventing me from upgrading from the stock/rooted rom.

You download and extract the file to your PC. You use Odin on your PC to connect to your Tab and then flash the extracted *.tar.md5 file. Before you try flashing, go into recovery and wipe data/cache, then put the Tab into download mode from recovery, attach the cable and use Odin to start flashing. Odin and this flash will erase everything on the Tab, even backups, music, video, pics, etc. The entire Tab will be formatted for the new firmware, so you will need to set it up again.

But the hassle is well worth it...ICS is much nicer than HC.
:)

YES! The camera works since this is an official Samsung firmware with the drivers for the camera. It will work just like a regular OTA update since it's the actual Samsung update.

The reason third party ROMs for ICS or JB don't have a working camera is the devs don't have the drivers for the camera hardware. With these official releases though, they should be able to extract the drivers and improve their ROMs.

Odd, nothing on my tab was deleted. Everything I had on there before the update was still there and still worked fine.

I didn't even do the wipe data/cache, still worked fine.

For those who have done this, two questions.....
Can you log into all your various accounts including google, gmail, Samsung, etc.,?
Also, I don't have any major things to backup, apps I can re-download from Play Store.
What else do I need to back up and what's the risk if I don't?Reason I ask is in case
my backup should for some reason be n/g.
Thanks.

Oh that's right, it's an update so it will keep the data and apps. I don't like updating major OS versions, so I wiped it first then flashed the updated firmware.
My bad.
:o

This rom rocks!!! how do I get root (super user ) back on there tho?
You need to flash CWM or TWRP so you can root. Not sure exactly how as I don't bother with rooting, but there are lots of guides and info here and on XDA for ICS.

Yes of course, I have two gmail accounts syncing, google play store has my paid apps, etc.

No big deal really...I don't do google backups as I have copies of important files, music, videos, pics, all on my PC. I always do a clean install/update with major version changes and then re-install my apps and settings. It's a bit of a hassle, but it ensures a perfectly clean setup. Not counting some CM10 installs to test it out, I've only had to do it once in the last year when I updated to ICS from HC v3.2...but I also don't mind tinkering a bit with my devices.
:D

I already have CWM 5 on the tablet, could you suggest a working root method that works with ICS update? I'm not sure if the original method i used to root ( for honey comb) would still work as well.

Good stuff. How do you like it?

So far so good .... I don't like the default white keyboard, and IM still trying to get used to the swipe keyboard.

I didn't do any back UPS and all my data was fine all my apps are still here.... Everything works

It's skittle faster, I can edit the launchpad, but th e screen cap is still there ... Wish I could get rid of it

Overall .... I highly recommend doing the update

I'm not a fan of white keyboards either, but for the performance boost I can learn to live with it.

You can.
Open Settings, Display, Quicklaunch, and select None to remove the virtual button, or another option for that button like Camera shortcut. No more annoying Screencapture button.
:)

As I said, I don't root, so I'm not sure if CWM5 works on ICS or not. CWM6 is out which may work...

Another question for those who have done it.....
How's your battery life? Some are reporting that battery life has gone way down
since they flashed.

To make sure I understand correctly....
You did a factory reset to put your tab to "out of the box" condition, and then flashed?
That's what I was thinking of doing.
Thanks!
