Help Kies hanging when backing up applications

13lives

Lurker
whenever i try to run a backup via kies the program always hangs when it gets near the end of backing up applications, without fail it freezes on 36/50 and the spinning icon just goes round and round.

If i dont select applications to backup then the backup completes normally but i wanted to wipe the phone and start again but didnt want to download each application 1 by 1 - any ideas?

I've re-installed kies twice and running the latest version

anyone? just downloaded the latest update for kies and still hangs - if i dont select applications then it will back up normally

Does anyone have a fix to this problem. Strangely enough when I uncheck something that hung on the previous try, whatever is scheduled to be backed up last will hang, although it was backed up on the prior attempt. Thanks.

Same problem here, except I have never been able to complete even one successful back-up. Mine was hanging on photos and after I removed them from the back-up it hung on Music and after removing that it is now hanging on Other.

Anyone?

Same here. can back up basics but not a full back up. basically shit software.

I therefore rooted my phone and got Titanium back up. Now can back up everything to be SD card.

happened to me aswell. looks like certain apps. I cancelled and unticked that app that was hanging and eventually uninstalled it off my phone

Some thing very odd is happening with my phone and its supposed photos. For some reason Kies thinks I have over a thousand photos. My device is virgin new and, unless I'm missing something, doesn't have any photos on it. I can't help but wonder if Kies is 'seeing' photos that aren't there and consequently hanging when trying to back them up. It's very frustrating. I was trying to find ways to use my device without inviting Google to get to know me better than my mother. It seems that that is almost impossible to achieve....

Have you got a Google Picasa account? When I got my phone and went to the gallery I discovered that it has automatically linked to an old Picasa account I hadn't used in years!

It is possible. I believe I may have opened one loooong ago, but certainly haven't used it for a couple of years. I'll investigate.

Does Samsung have anybody responding to user problems here? The problems reported by many users in 2012 with Kies software are what I am encountering now in 2014, latest version, both in Windows 7 and on the Mac. The backup just hangs after a while. Fortunately, when I removed videos from the list of backups (don't even think I have any, but that's where it was hanging) and then ran the backup on Kies Lite, it acted more as expected.

When I went back and tried added a couple of the items I had taken off the backup list, I was surprised and disappointed to see that the Kies Lite software did not recognize that it had just made a backup of nearly everything, and plodded through copying all the just-copied information again. Not a very smart backup system. And then it hung - this time on the very small Memo item. Now I've got a hung backup - do I lose all that I got backed before?

All of the Samsung software with my Galaxy Tab has been a disappointment. Quality control, anyone? Makes me worry about the decision to give Samsung a chance.

After a successful backup of most categories, adding a couple more and redoing the video resulted in a hang after only one category was backed up again. When I canceled the backup, to my surprise, all the previously backed up categories no longer were available for restoring, just Contacts. What crummy software. Samsung, any fix for Kies in the works? It failed me on two platforms, Mac and Windows 7.

Kies told me to update the firmware on my Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. Made a backup and then attempetd the update. First Kies said it failed because the firmware file it downloaded was corrupted. I tried again and it appeared to be going smoothly, then suddenly it said the update failed due to "an unknown error." At this point the Tab 3 showed this message: "Firmware update encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again." Kies offered to do an emergency firmware procedure, but it also failed due to an "unknown error." I took my US-bought device into the Samsun service center here in Shanghai. They said they can't fix it and I have to go back to America. Argued, insisted it should be easy, if only just to wipe it and let me start over, but they and 3 other branches we called all gave us the runaround (Office A said no, go to Office B, who said n,o go to Office C, and finally Office C told us to go back to where we started, Office A, who then spent more time telling us why they couldn't help than it would have taken to actually help).

Samsung's site has a page describing the update process with a link to info on recovery if the update process fails. Not surprisingly, the link itself fails: How do I update my Samsung Galaxy Tab

The trouble with Kies is thet it's absolutely horrendous, I wouldn't advise anyone to waste thier time with it really.

Also Samsung aren't going to read any of this and/or help, sorry bud.

I swiftly learned about the ways of Odin and rooting to avoid Kies altogether.

Now that Kies encountered an "unknown error" while updating my firmware and killed my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, is there anything that Odin can do to help? Samsung tech support wants me to mail it from China, where I live, to Texas, and then after they reset it to factory conditions, they won't mail it back here even if I want to pay for it. Just no service spirit at all. But rather than lose it in questionable international mail, I'd like to find some other way. Samsung tech support here in Asia won't touch it.

I have NEVER seen software as ******** as this. The latest version hangs entirely randomly, regardless of what I choose to back up, and at various stages. Even if i choose to backup only contacts, it goes through the entire internal storage and scans pictures, videos, application cache and then just hangs. Stupid piece of crap.
