Help No sound at all on new phone?

Hi all,

My mum just got at new SG3 which I helped her get started today. It seems to work fine except for one important thing: there's no sound. Neither text messages, incoming calls, music, YouTube nor in-call sound.

I've been through everything I could think of - still no sound. Not muted, of course.

Any ideas?

Failing that, then the speaker is faulty.

we've already been through all the settings we could think of and the phone is brand new out of the box so was at factory settings when first switched on.

It's both speaker and microphone that don't work. I don't get it.

Try plugging a headset in and using the headset for about a minute.

Then unplug the headset and then using the phone.

Can you get sound (music) thru a set of headphones? If not, then there is probably a problem with the audio chip or software. You might try rebooting the phone or possible a factory reset.

Is the headphone icon present in the notification bar without the headphones? Then there is a short in the headphone jack. Return the phone.

If a factory reset dosn't solve the problem, then it's best to return it for a replacement.

We tried a factory reset just now and it didn't work. We'll try to see if the seller will accept a replacement. Thanks everyone!

Update: My mum had the handset replaced by the seller. New handset seems to work fine. Thanks again!
