Root [International] How do i backup efs folder?

I'm currently using omega v13 rom. Been reading how important it is to have a backup of the efs folder before flashing omega v.14 and onwards. But where do I find it and how do I backup it up properly? I tried to go to my files but don't see the efs folder.

There is an option in the omega Rom installation to backup your efs folder before it flashes the Rom. Some kernels such as siyah also back this up automatically.

Its on the root of the device /efs

I'm not convinced its important. I've never backed that up other than Nandroid. That said, Mines 6MB so it wont hurt

When I go to the sd card..I see a efsbackup.tar.gz file..does that mean it was backedup when I was installing omega? I dont even remember doing it.

It's one of those things which you most likely will never need to restore but flashes have been known to wipe the efs folder. If this gets wiped your imei will also be removed, which is hard to get back without a backup. I've never needed to restore it on my s2 or s3 with countless flashes but I always keep one as a precautionary measure.

As a side, does anyone know if the efs is backed up every time siyah kernel is flashed (it has an automatic backup enabled when you flash it), or does it check to see if you have one already and skip that step?

Well mine is dated July, so....

If your efs folder got wiped a nandroid wouldn't restore it.

I was under the impression that a nandroid copy was a complete snapshot of the entire system..? It must be different from the HTC Desire, then. Or have I misunderstood?

Is there anything else it will not back up, apart from extSd?

The only other thing I can think of which a nandroid doesn't back up is the modem. I suppose it doesn't backup the efs as its possible to restore a nandroid from one gs3 to another gs3, so if it backed it up it would change the imei of the phone it was restored to.

Just curious, how would I go about in restoring my backedup efs folder if i ever need to?

Restore it with ktool or adb
'adb push efsbackup.img /sdcard/efsbackup.img'
'adb shell'
'dd if=/sdcard/efsbackup.img of=/dev/mmcblk0p3'
'exit'
