Help Backing up my device...

Newbie
So Ive had my phone for a few months, after switching from blackberry. its great. I thought i might try to root my phone. which i have absolutly no idea how to do even after reading a bunch of how to's.. im sure i can get the files on there and so on.. anyone can follow a video.. either way ill figure that out. but incase i screw it up... id like to backup this phone.

on my blackberry, i could backup everything, load a previous date, switch to new phone, reload all contacts a mms etc.... a complete backup with one click. does this s3 have anything like that? where if i screw it up i can just restore my previous settings and stuff..

i have read quite a bit before posting this.. but a step by step for telus would be cool.

If you root you can use the recovery or ROM manager to do a complete system backup. If you are not rooted there is no way to do this.

+1 on this. I've tried several different backup apps, even bought some, and unless you ROOT your phone, they will not completely backup your phone to the degree that running a restore gets you back to where you were when you did the backup.

While the all do contacts, messages, picx, videos, what they all did NOT do was backup the data associated with the apps, at least, not in a consistent way. I ALWAYS, for example, had to re-enter every Wireless profile again.
