Desire battery consumption

Newbie
All new Desire owners. Has anyone else noticed the battery charge does not seem to last well? I have the wifi turned off and only enable it when required but just general usage seems to sap the power quite quickly. At the moment I'm not sure a full charge would even last a day!!! Are there any smart apps out there to help manage this? Do widgets relly use that much power? The Android OS itself seems to use an alarming amount of power as does everything else!!! Has anyone else encountered this yet?

Cheers.

I find this happens to all new phones for the first few charges. It then begins to settle and the battery lasts a lot longer.

Might not be too much of a problem!

Also, in addition to Proudest_Monkey, battery chemistry does indeed mean that the full capabilities are reached after a few charges. Not as many as the old Li-ion, but still a few.

Also, importantly, remember that when you get a new phone, you pretty much use it constantly! I know I do. You spend time checking it out, setting it up, listening to ringtones, hooking it up to the computer, installing contacts, testing bluetooth, making calls to check quality and brag(!) etc etc etc.

I.e. you rip the battery a new one for it's first few cycles!

So inevitably, with the above two points, and modern big a$$ screen smartphones, your battery initially will last not very long at all.

When I get my Desire, I expect the battery to choke within the hour! :D

I've had the phone off the charger for ten hours now and am on 40% battery with an hours music and browsing, a few texts. So far turning screen brightness down when not using and turning off 3g and WiFi when not in use is ok

My battery been great so far. Out the box I charged it for about 15 hours and then played hard with it, lasted well imo. I'm using juice defender, turn of net when not required also saves battery.

if you chose to root, you can also use a useful app called SetCPU that allows setting different max/min CPU speeds depending on customizable profiles (ie. when charging, when battery is < X %, when in sleep mode, etc, etc... )

Very nice information, a thanks to you! Will have to investigate when it arrives.

this might be a dumb question....

How do I make sure an app shuts down without using a specific task or app killer?

settings/accounts & sync, click on the app and set intervals.

Your battery life will get a lot better after a couple weeks stop worrying, my N1 did the same thing.

I've had my Desire on since 8.30 this morning. 100% then, 84% now. That's including browsing the internet, using email, playing a couple of games, downloading new apps etc.

Doesn't seem to bad to me!

Cheers Arthur, (dumb question) did you download that from the 'apps store'? can't check as it's being charged!! FFS. All I want to do is set my email (hotmail) so I set it to update (done) manually then anything should be on request. What other apps can I "on demand" to help improve this, sorry for the dumb questions but at the moment fairly unhappy with it. Help much appreciated folks.

If I were to do a factory reset (not much on it yet) could someone offer me some advice on the best way to set it up?

Thanks!
