Text notification not load or long enough

I'm finding I'm often not spotting I've got a text as I can't hear the notification as it doesn't go load enough. Also the notification only sounds once. Is there a way to make it repeat a number of times?

You'd need a separate app for that.

Try GoSMS Pro or Handcent SMS (I use GoSMS).
You can custom set notifications, repeats, volumes etc.

Also, press the volume up key on the desktop, then press the little cog button that appears on the right of the volume bar and make sure that the notifications slider is up.

Also, when you place the phone with the screen facing up anywhere, it automatically becomes quieter as the loud speaker is on the back of the phone. I have to place it face down in most places to make sure I hear it!

Nice one thanks. Looked at both apps and gone for Handcent SMS. You just got to love Android!
 
i also had the same problem, the text notification sound just wasnt loud or noticable enough for me. even when i raised the volume up and change the sound numerous times still didnt work correctly. the only way i noticed i had a text is if the little blue light would blink.

The way i solved this was i downloaded the zedge app, and change the sound to something that was more noticable, for me i used the wrestler undertakers church bell theme. now not only is it noticeable but never miss any texts anymore.
