music help

I am not a big music buff but I would like a few songs on my phone. I have an external drive at home with about 80 gig of music on it. It is in no real order just a mix of random songs and albums.

What is the best way to organize this mess and put some of them on my S3? Cover art ect. I don't own a ipod so no itunes for me. I also noticed that I can download songs from google play. Is this a good idea? How do I store the music I buy so it is easy to manage in the future and wont get lost. I just want an easy way to keep things as I move from phone to phone over the years.

What is the best way to keep pics and music backed up on my phone? Drop box ? Kies air? I am sure there is an easy way.

Sorry for all the questions, I am new to this stuff and want to make thinks easier for future upgrades.

If you don't want the entire 80 gigs on your phone, i would just put them on your ex sd card. There are a lot of music players that will download missing cover art. There are also tag editors. I use playerpro, it's awesome, lets me choose cover art from multiple sources. Also has a great lock screen and downloadable skins and widgets. I use the ex sd, because when I change phones I just take it with me. Also Google Play, keep in mind any music you buy from them is stored in a cloud, so to speak, so you will have to use data to use it. (they do have options for downloading it to your pc.)

Dropbox is amazing for photos, everytime I take a pic on my phone it immediately uploads its and i can then access from my home pc, the web, tablet or my phone, you can also share folders or files with anyone. I hope some of this helps ;)

So, if I want to buy songs and have them on my phone where is a good place to purchase them? I don't want to use data everytime I listen to them.

Amazon Cloud Player and Google Music offer easy ways of getting music on your phone. You can purchase from right within the app and download to your phone for listening offline, or purchase from the web and the music will be instantly available on your device for streaming. Amazon is probably the more mature "music store" at this point.

iTunes 8 - Playlist management, a well-rounded online store, high-definition video and podcast support, and integration with all the iPods released since the original. It's not however essential to have an apple device to use this service, tho it adds a few steps to the methods mentioned above.
