Converting TiVo files to Galaxy s3

Hi folks... Used TiVo Desktop Plus to convert my TiVo files to files that I can play on my Galaxy s3. I converted to both H.264 and to MPEG4 (and yes I know that both are MPEG4)... I am assuming that these are the two best to use for the Galaxy s3... correct? I also converted one show from my Series 2 TiVo and one from my HD TiVo Premier... and then moved them (via USB) to my microSD card in the Galaxy s3. Everything went perfect, but watching moth the plain show and the HD show, both are not very clear and grainy... there are no settings on the TiVo Desktop Plus for the conversion... so am not able to change any parameters... am I doing something wrong or is there a better way/app to use to do the conversion? I mean they are both 'viewable' but NOT anywhere what I had expected to see... I was hoping that the videos would be great quality... just like looking at at DVD... but they are not... any suggestions or tricks/tools you can suggest?

Thanks in advance for any input you can provide...

I dont know what format they start in, but in regards to converters, handbreak is about the best that I have found.

On the Tivo Desktop Plus portable conversions:

Both the MP4 and H.264 resolutions are 320 x 240
The PSP, iPhone, Zune HD resolutions are 480 x 272
The iPad, Droid resolutions are 640 x 360

So for sticking with the Tivo Desktop Plus use iPad or Droid by Motorola options. I just tried it with a 1.04 minute TivoHD recording, and the 640 x 360 resolution looks pretty good on the S3. And the file created was only 8.8Mb vs the 21Mb file for the option I talk about below.

There are rogue programs out there that will decode TivoHD files to MPEG at the full 1920 x 1080 resolution. I have a favorite if you PM me. You could use Handbrake (best) or Format Factory (OK) to transcode to MP4 and down to the S3s resolution of 1280 x 720.

I use a free program called kmttg to convert the TiVo files to mp4 files; I use a resolution of 1280 x 720 for the Galaxy S III. Once I got it set up, it worked great, although it's not the most user friendly software out there.

You can get information about it here: kmttg - Tivo To Go made easy - Google Project Hosting

Thanks lots.... just a couple of questions....

Where do you change it to convert to 1280 X 720?

Does the software work for Widows 7... I see that you say it "should work"... but rather than going through the pain and process... does it work with Windows 7?

I really would like to get some great quality out of my TiVo for my Galaxy s3, so any help is appreciated... am game for downloading kmttg, but want to make sure it is worthwhile before I go through all the hoops....

Thanks lots!

This is where the user unfriendliness kicks in...You can edit the .enc (encoding) files to change the parameters to what you want. There are instructions out there somewhere, but maybe this will make it easier: Here is my .enc file for the 1280 x 720 output. It goes in the /kmttg/encode folder, and it uses handbrake for the conversion. Once it's in that folder, you can select it from the drop-down menu in kmttg.

I use kmttg with Windows 7 with no problems.
