Root [Sprint/Cricket] a question for everyone, just curious

Is it even nessesary to root this phone? As with most android phones I've owned, I rooted just about every one of them because there was always flaws with the stock from, ya know it could always be faster. But this phones a beast! I mean, I haven't really found any real reasons to go ahead with it. Usually when u install a custom rom it has its pros and cons and there's usually a number of features that don't work. So I ask, is it really worth it?

depends on what you do with your phone ya know?

. Id say the roms that are broken are the minority. Roms based off of stock are always going to be 100% functional

There's always improvements to make on the stock ROM. Root away my friend :)

couldnt of said it better myself

For me the decision came from a couple of annoying notifications that kept popping up. The one about losing roaming data while on wifi was irritating to say the least. I also use wifi tether in the car for the kids on their kindles and nook so it only made sense to get the rooting out of the way. I am however feeling the flashing bug coming on again like when I had my Evo OG ;) .....there was a period of time where I was on a different rom every other day.

Like was said already, it depends on what you want to do with your phone. I want to be able to make whatever changes I want when I want with no restrictions from the carrier. At one time I did some themes for the OG and have considered doing it again for this device. None of this can be done without root priviledges.

Haven't spoken to you in a little while. How are you in the LTEvo land? Lol How's CM10 running?

LTEVO land is great.

CM10 has been my daily for over a month now :)

Weren't you a Sense fan? Or was that just me O_O Lol I'm thinking about running an AOSP ROM as my daily as well. I'm just used to the 100% functionality (like you said) of TW just like I was on Sense, it just works, lol.

I do enjoy sense. I like having the option of running it. It's the reason I didn't get a nexus(and the lack of the newest hardware).

Cm10 is pretty much 100% there for us. The only real issue is problems with sdcard 2 not mounting sometimes.

Everything I use is fully functional. It's even got our beats going

That's good. The only thing that was messing up for CM10 for us was the MMS wouldn't send when WiFi was on. You'd have to turn it off just before sending. Some folks were having problems with screen flickering too but by disabling a feature it would either stop or be less. My favorite AOSP ROM is ParanoidAndroid. It's the best AOSP ROM (IMO from experience). I don't know why I went back to stock. I'm probably about to nandroid back to it now, lol.

We've got PA and AOKP as well, but I haven't tried them yet.

I was a huge MIUI fan on the OG, so I'm patiently waiting for that ;)

This is getting way off topic though. Feel free to PM me if you want to keep the convo going :D

Stock this phone is pretty fawless but after root there are some nice things you can do. I wouldn't root it if your not gonna take advantage of those things. Try it out for a few... If you get bored come join us in the dark side lol.
