Help NFC and tags on the S3

Roxoff

Newbie
I just got my first batch of NFC tags, delivered from Amazon and arrived yesterday while I was at work.

I've tried a few apps that can read and write these, but I seem to have settled on NFC Task Launcher, which is both free and pretty comprehensive.

I'm using it with a tag in the car to launch Drive Link. When this app is running, I have 'Setting Profiles' (by someone called probeez in the Play Store) flip my phone into my car profile, with the volume turned up and the bluetooth turned on.

NFC Task launcher will allow me to carry out an 'Activity' when a tag is read, this is like having it launch an application, but it calls one of the apps published interfaces - so the app doesn't just start, it starts doing what you want. Unfortunately the activity for Settings Profiles can only open the page to allow me to select a profile, there doesn't seem to be a way to pass a parameter to it to have it select a specific profile.

Does anyone know how to make it do this? Or perhaps there's a better profile manager or NFC tool that someone is using that can make this work better?

Thanks hvrc, but alas tectiles isn't available in the Play Store or in the Samsung Apps widget for me. Perhaps because I'm in the UK. What can it do that I'm not currently using? If it's anything like Sony's NFC tool, then it'll be quite limited.

Anyway, my question was more about either yanking the wire of Setting Manager or replacing it with something that does the same thing but is more aware of NFC tags. Or for suggestions for how I can do the whole thing better.

I was just reading reviews and so far I've got textiles, you can always search for the apk and side load it. I really have yet to write one just been using my friends are work and at the local 7–11 so it uses my credit card instead of my debit card.

If you do find one that is just plain bad ass, please report back!

Hi Roxoff

The samsung tectile app is still not available to me also (UK based).

I use `My Profiles` to set profiles which does allow a shortcut to be created on desktop, unfortunately NFC task launcher does not seem to recognise shortcut only default action and therefore I have the similar problem of not launching a set profile. NFC task launcher as had a recent update but I have not yet had chance to test.

I like the NFC task launcher over the Samsung TecTiles app simply because you can create a "switch " with NFC that lets you turn on and off a function by swiping the same tile more than once.

In other words, you would need two tiles with the Samsung TecTile to do what can be done with just one with NFC task launcher.

you both have the option of side loading this app, find someone with the latest version, i dont have a db link or id provide it, download, check my files, and install... you can literally sideload any app as long as the 3rd party app option is unchecked (not market app instillation)

but reading up on what can be done with these nfc tags, im picking some up myself in a week.

do either of you know what frequency to get if i wanted to go the cheap fleabay way?
