okay so I'm getting an early Christmas present this year. my girlfriend told me last night that she ordered me the new Nexus 7 and it will be here in 3 to 5 business days. my question to you guys is how well is this phone from a modder's standpoint? I enter stand that has a quad core processor and that's what cells me the most on it but I want to know about the modding community. what do you guys think what is the ups what is the downs let me know it's coming in a few days Inn I am rooting it as soon as I get it so any help now us greatly appreciated. this is my third Android device I have the Samsung Admire and I also have the Lg motion both rooted. this is going to be my first tablet tho. And I'm excited but scared cuz she already bought it.

the developer's community is very large. especially since this is the only tablet without bloatware and/or skin overlaying the Android OS.

check out XDA's Nexus 7 section
Nexus 7 - xda-developers

i find myself checking here constantly for updates. one exampe is that there's already a 3rd build of AOKP for the Nexus 7.

and the Wallet credit was basically that, start up Google Wallet when you would receive a $10 credit to use at any NFC enabled retailer/vending machine. this is all past tense because Google killed off this promotion on Sept.17.

there is a separate credit though- $25 Play Store credit. you can use this for purchasing apps, in-app purchases, music, movies, magazines, and books. Google will kill off this promotion at the end of Sept (i think, or near the end of Sept).

Just to make sure and you're clear, this is not a phone. Tablet PC with wifi.

And it's the best. Hopefully she ordered the 16GB not the 8GB.

It's a Google Nexus device, unlockable bootloader, large dev community, plenty of ROMS from what I've seen. Although this is the first device I have owned where I wasn't rooting and ROM'ing it within the first few days. I've had it for a few weeks and stock Jellybean works so well and there is no preinstalled bloatware to deal with, I haven't changed a single thing on it yet. Compared to the 2 Android devices you've had so far, you too may find that the Nexus is a beast all by itself and doesn't need to be torn into and rooted and ROM'ed from day one. Not that there is anything wrong with that, if you want to, go right ahead. But if you're assuming you're gonna need to do that just to squeeze some extra performance out of the device like you might have had to do in the past, wait until you see how great it is right out of the box.

Probably go ahead and unlock right when you get it. If it's like my Nexus phone you will run into complications (like losing it all) with stuff on the internal SDCard partition when you unlock. Of course, I think you can back that up to PC from within WugFresh tool kit and get it back later. But if you think you may ever want to mess with other roms, etc. go ahead and unlock sooner than later.

I really don't see a reason to rom it just yet from what I've been reading, I probably won't do that unless needed. I do plan on unlocking it right away. Is wugs nrk as easy as everyone is saying it is?

It'll download the drivers you need, it'll run the cmd scripts to unlock and root your phone so you don't have to, and it'll back your phone up. So yes it is that easy.

However.

I prefer the old fashioned way (at least on my phone) because if something does happen to go wrong down the line, you'll know exactly what you need to do and you'll have hands on experience
